I dont have a system in my cobalt, but I have a one 12inch L7 in a 3 cubic foot ported Kicker box, with a est. 1200 Watt RMS cheater amp, 140amp alternator, 900 CA dry cell battery, Kicker 3 way crossover, awia headunit pushing 2.4 volt from the output in a ext cab S-10... I have spiked to 141db, but most of the time its 139db... On a side note I can bounce a full pepsi bottle off the roof of the cab..lol..

heres a couple of things to keep in mind:

threshold of pain is most often defined as 120 dB (discomfort to the human ears)
Beyond 191db is no longer considered sound, but a Shockwave..
Poineer's 2002 F-250 hit 180.3 dB to capture the first place trophy and set a new world record in the 2006 idBL Ultimate 3 division. With 13 TS-W5102SPL subwoofers powered by 52 PRS-D5000SPL amplifiers, 128 16-volt Kinetic batteries and three Ohio Generator 285-amp alternators producing more than 157,000 watts of power.

I have never heard of anyone having any problems with kicker speakers, even the comps hold up great, they produce great sound at a low frequency and low RMS...Cheap amps make alot of distortion and distortion is what pops voice coils..

^^^^ that is 100% user error and abuse. Square subs really cant be as "durable" persay as circles due to the cone never fully in the same position with itself (especially the corners) BUT what would cause the subs to do that is severe clipping. Shitty amp + bad settings = broken speaker

I hit 156 DB's w/ a Memphis Audio 1000D and two Diamond Audio 12'' subs in a tuned box on TermLab, but that was in my extreme blazer. I was also running 2 gauge wire, a powermaster 200 amp alternator, and an optima battery, so there was no lack of power. I think pulling that off in a balt would be a bit different though

Not going to happen with that setup.
When i have more time i will be on my way to getting the cobalt in that range like my last car on the term lab! My full modded Stetsom amp has yet to work right so i dont know where im at now but not near that. And talking about doing that with 2000 watts i cant remember the last time i used that little to do what ever number i am now. The modded Stetsom 7kd will do 7000watts at 2 ohm and 9300watts at 1 ohm. If i ever go 16 volt set up i can do at around 11000watts( specs that Alan Dante said it will do). Even then its going to be mostly in the box design and subs to consistently hit the 150's

Oh by the way i have a set of solo X 10's by kicker if anyone wants them They will do good numbers but you have to have the juice to feed them and there rebuildable. Pics are in my photobucket

OHHHHHHH, UMMMMMM, STETSOM.

A friend of mine back east had 4 18" DVC (can't recall the brand) and 4 Orion HCCA 2100 competitions in a Mazda B2200, subs were walled behind the seats not in the bed of the truck and he could never break 150 db.
Neither could this other guy at the shop who had 6 RF Punch XLC 15's in a diamond shaped box with 1 Punch 200DSM running to each 15, all this crammed it the back end of a Jeep Renagade
Although 140 was the magic number back then

Lol Emperor, by the way I love your doors man when are you going to do mine?
Well the first one was damaged by shipping so i sent it to Dante which is about 2 hours up the rd from me.
He had one of his amps that he used in world finials when he did a 181.8 that was modded so i got that one from him. Friend of mine that lived closer to Dante meet up with him to pick up my amp so i didnt have to worry about shipping this friend of mine was driving down my way anyway so it worked out great. He got to my house like around 8am the day of the show so when i got to the show uninstalled my D5 and installed the stetsom. As i drove outside of the building to do some test i noticed i wasnt getting anything out of the amp so when i pop the trunk the amp was in protection wouldnt do anything. So after double checking everything which had to be fine since the other amp was playing ok i drove back inside to take it out and hook the d5 back up.
The ohm load on both amps are at 2 ohm. I had plan to run that load on the stetsom and thats what i run daily on the D5. But if i had known i was going to be using the D5 i would have brought some extra 8ga wire and wired it down to .5 ohm to the D5. The D5 will not have much power till then so i ended up competing with that amp at 2 ohm lol. Subs were very thirsty.
So first competion with this car and new setup with no tuning since i have sold my 3rd term lab meter and weak amp at 2 ohm i did a 141.5 on audio control mic which is about a 1 or so db down from term lab that i remember. Thats 13 db down from my last setup in other car lol. I think the balt has toooo much flex etc. to do well unless more work is done. I have yet done any kind of dampening.

i agree theres mega flex especially on the roof. but i thought the AC was higher in terms of readings then the termlab? ive never seen one in peron only dealt with the TL here. I also completely agree with you it sucks having **** go wrong the day of/before a comp... always happens. Did you get the amp fixed or whatever?

thanks for the compliments on the door pods. one big step for finishing the car.

Yes the AC is higher i may have worded it wrong up above i dont feel like reading back through it lol. But yes the AC was about a db higher than my Term lab.
He got the amp this weekend so maybe end of next week or week after that i will get it back. Maybe i will have a new meter then also but im really not wanting to spend the money for another one.

ummmmm you should check out WWW.FICARAUDIO.COM FI Audio makes great subs, the subs are completely custom to fit your needs so if you want to make your ears bleed thats the way they will build them,if, on the other hand, you want sound quality they will take the same sub and make it geared towards SQ. Also check out the Pioneer Premier Championship SPL subs, ummm lets see any of the T series rockfordfosgate subs will beat you to death, TREO makes a good sub also for high SPL.....and also Diamond Audio are some of the best SQ speakers out there......if your serious about doing this you should shop and look around and do some research....there are alot of other subs out there other than the L7s so do you self a favor and go promote early hearing loss and check out what the other companies have to offer. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Thats my two cents...Holla
