I don't get the point of SPL. This whole "my car is louder than yours" thing is so juvenile. Just build a system that sounds good. All you need is one properly powered 10" or 12" sub to provide bass. Even that is enough to do serious damage to your hearing. I had a 15" Kicker L5 in my Sunfire for a while and it's too easy to get carried away with the volume knob. You may say "I don't turn it up very often", but you only have to crank the volume knob too high ONCE to do permanent damage. I learned my lesson the hard way. I talk loudly because I have done damage to my hearing and don't realize how loud I am and I find myself saying "what?" and "pardon?" a lot. Just something to think about before you drop a bunch of cash on an over-the-top "loud" system.

if your not shooting for a world record, why shoot for a specific number? Why not make it sound good. It will be plenty loud enough for you to listen to regularly and even crank occasionally well before you get to 150db.

If i were you i would get my system re-measured on a TL (termlab) the one use on your system was an AC (AudioControl) which is not the best ...I have known the AC to be off by atleast 20db's

Completely agree ^ This is also the AC mic and not the sensor. The AC sensor is a little more stiff. I have to say thats a clean and nice setup but that reading is not accurate.
after winter i hope to be breaking 150's on TL
Also anyone interested in a Stetsom 7kd nitro amp i will have one up for sale.

Metered my car the other day. Was hitting 139.0 on a TL with a single Type-R 12 in a ported custom box on an Alpine M-850. Just metered to 143.1 on a single Type-X 12 with a PDX1.1000. Now I'm ripping it all out and selling it so I can build the car more for the track. I was into SPL for a little while, but honestly the scene and competitions get kinda redundant since there's only so much you can do.

probably side firing. honesty im pretty sure its above 130. probably right around 140 on a sine sweep. i bet you with that same equipment in a new box with 1/0 and a yellow top or equivalent it could do 145 easy

It's not an accomplishment to break 150 with any junk out there, tune a box to around 50Hz and the cab gain in the cobalt will take care of the rest (I have no idea where peak gain in these cars is so i'm just taking an educated guess). Having said that, L7's are junk and overpriced. There's a reason why the big box stores carry the stuff, quality is often sacrificed to mass produce products.

You're just going to have to ask yourself if you are wanting to build a competition setup or something worth spending money to listen to. I'm not saying you can't be loud and still have a very nice sounding setup tuned in the low 30's but I'm sure you're probably after the latter of the two and you're just not going to do that with 2 L7's.

Well no... actually a 9db increase would result in a "loudness" value of about triple the 141 db marker.

dont even go there thats a BS myth and unless your in a serious competition vehicle that wasnt caused by the subs. at the shop we had a wall with 4 re MT 15s 8kw 12 batteries that cracked the roof but not the windshield. Sure 2 L7s will crack a windshield if its already chipped or started cracking before

I've seen a few crack but usually the glue holding the windshield in lets go before the windshield cracks. Systems tuned fairly high and pushing over 160 db though.

, that video is **** compared to actually SITTING IN THE CAR.That sub is a SPL competition speaker, people EASILY hit 150 with just a single 12" The voice coil is 4", the RMS is 2500 Watt.......Yes it is ported, the port 4" wide, i had to cut and re-port the box myslef. Those cracks are from my fist, and they have streched across quite a bit over a short amount of time.

I'v never seen a window flex so much in my life....Seem's to be holding up tho, It takes allot to take out a window http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsDTMqkVSAU

Im running 0 guage tsunami power and ground, then from there 4 guage to the amp. Ixos signal cable, panasonic MXE head unit W/5V pre out's, I have had the SOLO X for about 3 years + playing with different ams and boxes. I had a hard time getting the right box built, actually the box i have now was a L7 box that i Cut the existing port to 4X what it was and it's the loudest, deepest, Craziest set up iv ever had.

Just last night/fri morning i was down at our local stereo shop..CAR STEREO 1 , For Black FRI The first 200 people get free cd players and stuff, well most people hang out bring tv's and wait the night out. I Had my car down there, and i had allot of people ask to here my car,and not to many people have ever herd an X before..Well this bigger guy walkes over to my car with a group of people and hands me a MTX test cd and saiz here try this **** out.....I had every head in that Lot Turned haha... 90% of the time i cannot use cd's in my car, skips like crazy. Everyone asked what do you hit, i replyed i'v never had it meter'd......So im gunna look online and see if i cant purchase my own, and ill make a video.

I hit 145.5db with 1 12"L7 tuned in a custom 2.5cu ft built ported box at 42hz.
I had to tune it to hit it that high, on a street tune it was lower.
My rear view mirror fell off once, but the car was old (94).

It's impossible to build a competition SPL setup that you can run on the street. At best you can tune it down for cruising.

see all of that makes sense. Unfortunately numbers really doesnt matter on this forum and never will. The only way to really tell who is louder then who is if the vehicles are metered on the same day same place. Next best thing is if everyone uses a termlab meter. The install means way more then the rest honestly. Ive seen a single type r 10 hit 150 yet a jackhammer hit 130
