Audio/Video System Design Help

*EDIT*
Ok, here is the current target system

Head/Base
Streetdeck Infill T3 (w/ XM, OBD-II Vehicle Monitor, TV Antenna, Rearview cam)
(2) Kenwood KGC-9044 11-Band Spectrum Analyzer/Graphic EQ (Front & Rear)

Front Mids/Highs
Kenwood KAC-8452 4-Channel Amp
(4) Kenwood KFC-P707 6.5"/0.8" Titanium component

Rear Mids/Highs
Kenwood KAC-8452 4-Channel Amp
(2) KFC-P707 6.5"/0.8" Titanium component & (2) KFC-6990ie 6x9" Titanium

Mid Bass
Kenwood KAC-7252 2-channel amp
(2) U/K 6" to 8" (mounting under seats)

Low Bass
(2) Kenwood KAC-9152D Mono D Amp
(4) KFC-W3514DVC 12" 4ohm DVC -or- (2) KFC-XW1100DVC 11" 3ohm DVC

All Amps and Subs are 1ohm stable. The W3514's are fairly loud, but are designed more for sound quality. The XW1100's are farking *LOUD* as hell and will have to be turned way down to listen to anything but techno or bass music.

So help me out here, I need to find some mid bass drivers and pick one of the two subs. I'm leaning towards the W3514s, since they perform well, sound good, and I can get four for slightly less than the cost of one XW1100. Plus finding the XW subs is always a pain.

KAC is their Amps, KFC is their speakers. I'll edit it for clairity. And the tweets that are part of the componente package are KFC-T207, a 20 mm UFLC Soft Dome Tweeters. If your wondering, UFLC is Poly Urethane Film Laminated Cloth. Their rated 65rms, can hold 130rms, and handle a peak of around 280. I am actually a little tempted to switch them to the KFC-XT15ie, which are titanium, but I don't think I would gain much if anything from the switch. I'm actually wondering why Kenwood doesn't ship those with their titanium component sets. Go figure.

lol i bet its because the other ones are cheaper so the can slightly lower the price of the componants so they get more sales and the person wanting the better ones would buy them anyway =more sales/profit

anyway why dont you go with 6.5 all around?

Well I actually thought about going with the 6.5" all around. And the thing is, these are 6.5" Oversized, meaning their actually about 6.75". I don't know if I could fit a second pair up front where I was looking at, thus the 5.25". And I could easily drop a pair of the 6x9" in the rear slots. Another reason I was looking at the 6x9's in the rear is was to cover the Mid/High bass duty if I only stuck mid/high bass subs up front.

So do you have any suggestions for smaller (6~8") mid/high bass subs I could use that would be mountable under the seats? Or anything on the actual low bass subs.

hm what ranges you looking to cover? When i was debating getting an 8" hx2 as midbass like i think you looking for i was told a set of 9s that were awsome and arent very deep (physical depth of the woofer) but I can almost bet that these hx2s would do exactly what your looking for (if im correct that is) but im 99% sure they cant be fit under the seat. Anyways tell me what your looking for in terms of the lower freqs that the midranges cant play

I'm looking to have several zones of overlap in my setup. The bigger woofers to have their cutoff at 100~180hz, with the midbass set at 100~180hz through 250~800hz depending on range of the sub. The midranges could actually do that whole range easily, but I would rather focus them so there is only a small overlap between the midbass and midrange (50~200hz, depending on total midbass range) Also the midbass will give you a nice kick in the ass, but not quiet at the same freqs as the kick in your back from the big subs.

depending on requirements, I might end up doing some cut and tub under the front seats to fit the subs. The JL 0w6 6.5" I was looking at shouldn't have any problem fitting (less than 4" depth with stroke). They also only take 75w at 4 or 8ohm to run.

Other options right now are JVC CS-BB2, which are 6" sus, 2.5" total box hight, self powered, and made to fit under the seat. Don't know about their range though and if I went that route, Kenwood also makes a powered compact 6" subbox. Ether or of those two, I'd most likely end up breakin' em out of their boxs and butting them in custom enclosures to make the install look smoother.

Now that I'm thinking hard on it, I believe Pioneer has a slimline 8" that might work as well.

So am I crazy or what? I know this system is going to be loud as hell.

that would work but personally i wouldnt set the crosses that high... 80hz is usually a good level for 12s but you shouldnt do that bad with ~100 if you got the jls... but i def wouldnt go 180hz... not sure why kenwood doesnt have specs on their site but i would e-mail them to see what the subwoofers can handle freq wise

for subs? i guess i just never herd of 12s going that high...

anyway if you run the subs up that high i would look for the midbass to hit at least 500hz... (not sure if the woofers you looking at can do that) and roll with 6.5,5.25 or whatever as midrange... if your looking for volume i would go with the 8 6.5s or if you didnt want to deal with the hassle of using plates and we for the rear deck then go 6 6.5 and 2 6X9

Never hear of 12s going that high?! Oh yea, your into the crazy hard hitting bass woofers instead of the sound quality woofers. Now if I go with the 11's, which isn't likely since they would add nearly a grand on top of my already impressive bill, they are targetted at around ~50hz, can go as low as 10 I believe, and top out at around 100.

I don't want to run the 12s up to 200 though, since thats like pushing speakers to at 5. The very edge of their range never sounds the best, so I think I'll go with 151hz and below, with the midbass 149hz to 400~500hz. Now I just gotta find some midbass.

for your highs I would recommend MB Quartz or Eclipse Pointsource series, and for subs I would recommend Image Dynamics IDMAX for the subs

If this were my setup, I would make a few changes for the better. First of all, I do like Kenwood, but there audio is nothing special to me. Headunit's are very nice along with some amplifiers. If you want some very nice tight bass, I would go with a company that not to many people have heard off; Image Dynamics. There high-end subwoofers are supposed to compare with the frequency output and clarity of a JL Audio. I've never heard the top notch sub they offer because I was strapped for cash at the time, but the middle grade 10 in subwoofers accented my car nicely. It's up to you if you want to keep the Kenwood theme. I don't know if that was the idea, or you just really like Kenwood.

As for the speakers, I would do Boston Acoustic components in the front and MB Quart's in the rear deck. With this setup, you will have everyone walking up to your car for a closer listen.

Hope I helped out.

In my mazda 3 I had Eclipse Pointsource 6.5 seperates front door and pillar for the tweets, and 5.25 two ways rear door, and 1 12" IDMAX, had a MTX 1501D for the sub, and MTX6004 for the highs, and Kenwood Excelon for the deck, sounded absolutely amazing. TONS of compliments on it

Talking

MB Quartz are too damn expensive for the difference in sound quality. Now if I had the money, yes. But I'm a cheap bastard when it comes to maybe a 1~3% difference in sound quality for about 5x the price. Don't know about the Eclipse, haven't really listened to the good stuff from that brand. Their standard stuff sounded pretty good last I heard some.

Also, if you will have noticed, all my speakers selected, that you will be able to see, are Titanium. Shiny Titanium at that. Which I will most likely trim with blue EL Wire and LED spots. If you can think of another make/model that will Look *AND* sound good though, I'd love to hear it.

So does Image Dynamics make some good mid bass drivers? That's really the thing I need the most. A good midbass driver that I can mount under the seats. I wanna rattle my wifes tail real good on her first ride in it.
