BIG audio question

I have a 04 Supercab F150. I want to keep the stock 6 cd changer thats in dash, however I want to run 4 Infinity Kappa 682.7cf 6x8's (Linky). So I need to run an external amp for them. I was thinking since the speakers are 100RMS @ 2ohms I would get a 90RMS x 4 @ 2 ohms Infinity Reference 475a 4-channel amplifier (Linky). I also want to run a JL Stealthbox Custom 10" sub inclosure (Linky) which I would also need an amp for. I was looking at an Alpine V Power Mono 500RMS X 1 @ 4 Ohms (Linky). I was also going to get some Street Wires 4 guage kit (Linky - 1 for each amp) and alot of Street Wires 12 guage Speaker wire (linky)

Ok so sorry to make you read all that. Heres my questions, will this beable to hook up to my stock head unit? (I realize you guys dont have F150s so this may be a dumb question) I dont want to change it out because I like the stock look, my steering wheel works through my radio, and I like the 6 CD in dash feature. Also, in order to have all this juice do I need a new alternator or anything? Anything I am missing in this system I would need to get? I dunno much about car audio to be honest, Im an auto tech so I can take the doors apart and do all that, however I never wired an amp or sub or anything like that. I was also wondering do I need a Capacitor? (linky)

Since the Infinity amp doesn't have "speaker level inputs" and I'm pretty sure the F150 stock head unit doesn't have rcas... you would need a line out converter or a harness that puts out rcas.

Yep, you basically get yourself a 4 channel Line Out Converter (LOC).
If your want control of your sub, JL audio sells a remote bass control adjustment too.

ya a 4 channel amp and line out convertor is going to be a fun install. All I would do is swap the speakers, add the sub and sub amp

As for the cap.... 860 (both amps) watts rms in a F150..... I don't think you would. But it's kind of hard to tell.

And 5 farad would be over kill I think. General rule if I remember correctly, is 1 farad for every 1k watts rms.

do the install first and if you feel you need a cap later add it.

ima go cheaper speakers and just do a sub I think, Its a bit overkill for what I need, MTX and JL do units that fit under the back seat I may just do that. SO my question is, will a sub hook up to a stock head unit even if it didnt come with a factory sub?

Also, you can get an amp that accepts line level inputs. That way you can skip the LOCs

^^ this is true, but they also include free mounting kits with cd players, and provide instructions on tearing the dash apart, along with other small things (even though we already have those walk-throughs on here ha)

Ok, so I have a new question, if I get a Alpine 5 Channel amp, can I connect it to all 4 speakers, and my sub, and skip a LOC? It has a low and High pass filters. I take it I just run wires from my stereo, to the amp and then from the amp to the speakers/sub?

Thanks for all the replys too!

You sold a Chevy... for a ford?!?! I'm not helping you anymore.

Lol.. jking.. With that amp, no. It doesn't have speaker level inputs. When your looking at amps on cruthfield, click on the "Features & Specs" tab, and under Features you should see if it has Speaker Level Inputs. Meaning it accepts speaker wire as a source signal. Jl Audio has some amps, but you need to buy some cable though. Can't really think of any other amps right now

Well I work on cars for a living, and personally I work on ALOT more chevys then I do fords. Plus FWD doesnt offer what I want to do which is go camping, slight off roading, plus haul ass. My truck lets me do all that.

Anyway I like this JBL amp and it seems to have what I need...

Just to let you know as fair warning the best way to hook up an am using high level inputs and retain your fade from front to rear your going to need to splice the wires from the speakers and use the ones that came from the stereo as your input and run speaker wires to the other side where u spliced the wire (the speaker side) The best way to do this is get some speed cable (9 wire) and run it from the back of the HU to the amp. Use 4 wires for the amp input and 4 wires for your speaker wire for the fronts. (you can also utalize the blue as remote and jsut extend it from the back of your HU to the fuse box) Then use seperate speaker wire or speed cable for the rear speakers (either up to the HU or off the rear speakers themselves depending on which is easier)

If your rear speakers are easy to acess and u dont care about the ability to fade from front to back then u can use your front speaker input as the rear speaker input as well (u would also use one of the two for sub input if the amp requires a sub input) and just run speaker wire to the rear speakers (u would want to cap or tape off the unsused side of the wire u spliced)
