I can now see why you're confused.

He used 8.385x8.385x3.14 = 220.78 ~ 221 in^2

If, in fact, the 18" square sub has a surface area of 16.77" (as you say it does), then 16.77" x 16.77" = 281.2329 square inches, not 221.
Then multiplying that by the 3rd dimension (.22) would equal 61.871238 cubic inches.
But, according to the Kicker website, that particular sub has an Xmax of 24.88 mm, which equals .9622" and would put the volume at 269.983584 cubic inches.
I'm not even going to try to correct the rest because it doesn't matter. This response time you speak so highly of is meaningless when it comes to SPL. In order for a speaker to produce a 60 Hz frequency, it has to move 60 times, for and aft, per second. It doesn't matter if it's an 8" speaker or a 22" speaker. It still has to move that fast. The wattage is what determines how far the speaker moves, for and aft, and increases the intensity of the sound (aka SPL). Max excursion is how far the speaker will move before reaching its mechanical limits. It has nothing to do with "response time". It only limits how much said woofer can move before it tries to jump out of its own basket. If you'd like to improve the "response time" of any sub, put it in a smaller box. That alone will raise the Q of the speaker.
The fact is that this particular 18" sub (whether round or square) will displace more air than two JL Audio 12" subs that you're referring to, which I believe is what you had originally stated was not true.

most people say that the solo x sounds like **** this is because there ears are starting to blow from all pressure.
for how big the sub is it hits all the notes but dont get me wrong it doesnt sound like w7's and for all the extra weight its really not worth it in such a little car thats why im thinking of moving it over to my cherokee and and putting my 2 13w7's back in and maybe also get a re xxx

true but the fact that its a square sub is why no one would use it for sq applications... square is great for spl but in terms of sq it will never be able to do as well as equal round woofers... and no im not jsut trying to hate on kicker or your setup or what not... same thing applies to triangle woofers, sony's hex woofers or whatever they got, and even 6X9, 5X7, 6X8 ect speakers

We are/were doing a specific speaker comparison, not a generalized comparison.
If we were doing a general comparison then I can understand your squabble, cawpin.
