So I had my music down low just cruisin to the gym, and I started smelling something burning. I pull over and open my trunk, and smoke is just billowing out of my trunk...right from the amp.
I could see no blown fuses and no bare wiring, and billowing smoke is *usually* a bad sign... so I guess my amp is fried; I'll pull my car apart to make sure tomorrow night.

So as it stands I have a JBL GTO1202D 300w rms, 1200 peak, 1 or 4ohm impedance.(http://www.jbl.com/car/products/prod...CheckProduct=Y)

I've been out of the car audio scene for a few years now since I bought this sub and amp for my last car I had, and I was wondering what you guys would suggest to power my sub? From what I've heard the newer RF stuff is crap, and I'm not sure where to go from there. I'm looking to stay under $500.

Edit: If you guys can suggest something with a remote bass control like the old rockford's have, that would be amazing.

i have the MTX Jackhammer Amp. its pretty damn good. 600w u can hear the pitch changes pretty good.

check out Kaption audio, their sub amps are awesome, never had one come back at my shop

So turns out it was my sub, somehow I blew the voice-coil so bad that it wasn't even getting a current, not even distortion.. which is retarded since I only had the volume at about 15 out of 50 when it happened. Sorry Emp, I'll let you know when my amp DOES go lol. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Oh yeah I got a new sub for free, thank god for service plans little do they know this is the 5th or 6th sub I've gone through in 4 years lol.
