Blew a sub in 12hrs. I think that's a record. Need a little help.
Alright I installed everything and it worked good for 12 hours or so. Then nothing. Well after talking to kicker they came to the conclusion that the sub was blown. Good news is amazon is shipping me a new one and it'll be here on monday. I was hoping you guys could help me figure out where I fucked up.
Here's how I had it wired.
8 AWG power and ground wires to the amp.
I used 8 gauge speaker wire to the sub box terminals (here's where I think I fucked up) The terminals accept 12awg? So I had to thin out the 8 gauge but I didn't thin it out at the amp terminals. I wired the sub in series with the same 8 awg wire.
I had the gain set at 60-70% and never turned the remote bass level above half. So I'm confused.
Any help would be awesome

They produce power. Trust me.
I used to run Dual Optima's with an 1800/1 Audiobahn amp.
It used to ******* pound. PERIOD.
And for 150 for 2 when I paid 300 each 4 years ago is a deal IMO.
One will hit twice as hard as a CompVR.

The sub is rated to handle 400watt rms and 800 peak and like I said I even had the gain just slightly over half on the amp and not even over half on the remote bass level. I merely used the 8gauge because I had it. Thanks for the offers but Amazon was nice enough to ship me a brand new one. Free of charge I'm just hoping to get it right this time around. Just trying to figure out what exactly I did wrong.

Ill give you this photo for reference
ok, I had the gain set between the 4th and 5th marks the bass boost set between the second and third and the X-over @ 200 where it came set at out of the box.
Trust me I don't deny user error just trying to figure out what I fucked up so i dont blow the new one.
I read somewhere that kicker amps "read" 5 volts and that I should turn the gain all the way down? I dont know and I can'y find the link.

I had it wired in series for a 2ohm load. The kicker came rated at 492 rms. I had all the gain levels set as stated above. It was a new sub so I didn't want to push it and because about 70% there was alot of distortion.

well i had 2 cvrs 400rms each and a 800x1 rms kicker amp had the gain and the bassboost to the max on the amp and the deck all it did was keep shutting down the amp because of heat...subs can handle alot of punishment..only difference is your sub is a 4 ohm and the amp is 2 did you by chance only have the one voicecoil hooked up to your amp? "the 2 black and 2 red" terminals on the underside of the woofer

no way I ran 8gauge wire one from the black terminal with the white dot to the solid black and vice versa on the red and ran both wires to the amp from the terminals with the white dot right out of the instruction manual that why I'm confused. I obviously did something wrong I just can't narrow down what exactly.
Also when I get my new sub I'm going to use new speaker wire any reccomendations on the gauge?

8 guage is tiny man those holes must be small...by some chance when you trimmed them did you leave any strands of wire poking off so mabye some chance they crossed over? and as for static that could be the cause and it could be your audio cables to your deck might be worn or just needs replacement

I'm almost positive it's 8 gauge. It's pretty thick even without the insulation. As for a chance the wires touched? Doubtful I cut off all the excess and taped what wasn't in the terminals.

yeah after I get everything working the way it supposed to be I'm going to take a few photos and post them. It looks pretty sick and for the 12 hours or so it sounded awesome.
