bmw/merc style keyless system FINISHED
A while back i was thinking of how cool it would be to have a keyless go system like the new bmw's mercedes, ect. in the balt.
I looked up what i would need and it worked out to be alot cheaper/easier than i thought it would and i just finished wiring and testing the pushbutton start and keyless entry parts, although i have to buy a couple more relays for the passenger side door lock.
Basically when i approach the car, it unlocks, and as long as i have my wallet with the rfid transponder, i push a button and the car starts, and then push the button again to turn the car off. when i leave it automatically locks the doors and rolls up the windiws.
All in all the whole car can be operated without the use of any keys/keyfob whatsoever
I made the whole thing work using two main components, some relays, and a $4 switch from radioshack.
http://www.advancedkeys.com/Prod_IUI102.html
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=170365800773
total expediture with the relays and wire comes out to about $150
(i got the iui102 for $100 on ebay)
I will put up some pics/vids of the system working asap tommorow morning

Sounds like my cup of tea ! I may do this, when I get the funds. I was wondering, do you mean push button, as in inside the car or outside? I remember, I think the nissan, had a commercial where a person pushes a button on the dash that starts the car (w/o turning the key). I wonder how you could wire that.. Anyway, I have a base balt w/ no locks, etc. -- this would be a great winter mod for me. Ill keep looking for that how-to.

ok, i tried to take some pics and my camera battery was almost dead, so i managed to get like 2 pics before it died. Its charging and i will put a vid up later tonight.
heres one pic of the wiring for the relays for the locking and unlocking mechanisms, one of these is necessary for each door:
and this is the frid transponder which i keep in my wallet:

so im guessing when you walk out of range the car locks?
although that is a cool feature id be worried about being to close to the car and it being left unlock, while im at work my car is parked like 15-30 ft from where im usually standing

Rediculously awesome... one question. You're cruising down the freeway and accidently hit that button, does your car shut off, or is tied to the BCM the disable shutoff off when the car's moving or the brake is up?

since i didnt feel like going through all the work to disable the lock, what i did was take one of my spare keys, cut the gm passkey anti theft transponder bit in the black rubber part off of it, and put what is essentially a volume control knob type deal for an old radio on there so it doesnt look like ive just left my keys in the ignition to anyone who walks by. That way when i am not near the car that still wont start it, but it does allow me to just turn the "knob" to on after i start the car with the button, thereby disabling the steering column lock, and also making it so that even if the button is pressed the car will remain running until the "knob" is turned back to off
So i guess, really the problem you mentioned has been adressed, at least for now until i can think of a more permanent solution to that as well as the steering lock problem.

hmm, i guess i didnt really consider that, im sure i could wire it up to the brake switch somehow, although i dont really see how someone could push the button accidentally, and i acually do have a fix for this, one issue i ran into was with the steering column lock, a problem which a just discoverd today,
