On a budget - will this setup work? Pioneer 3400BH + JL Audio TR series
Hey all. I'd like to spend $500 on a new car stereo for my 2008 Cobalt LT2 Sedan (L61). I'm looking at upgrading my headunit and speakers (no sub/amp/dynamat/etc). My factory setup does not have the Pioneer system or amp, but just basic crappy paper speakers, one of which has blown. The aux-in has a lot of issues connecting to my iPhone, cutting out many mid-frequencies and giving me static noise related to the engine RPMs. After a new phone and 3 different cables, I can safely say it's the headunit.
I've been reading lots of reviews at Crutchfield... and am looking to purchase from Onlinecarstereo for a better price. (~$780 worth of gear for ~$495). I've installed a few stereos on my own, but I'm probably a 5.5 out of 10 on the handyman scale.
So here's what I'm thinking:
Headunit - Pioneer AVH-P3400BH DVD Receiver (or 4400 if it fits, since it's just a few $$$ more)
Pioneer AVH-P4400BH DVD receiver at Crutchfield.com
Fronts - JL Audio TR650-CSI (6.5" Components), installing the tweeter in where the factory tweeter goes on nicer Cobalts
JL Audio TR650-CSi Evolution™ TR Series 6-3/4" component speaker system at Crutchfield.com
Rears - JL Audio TR690-TXI (6"x9" 3-way)
JL Audio TR690-TXi Evolution™ TR Series 6"x9" 3-way car speakers at Crutchfield.com
So the Pioneer produces 14watts RMS (50 watts peak).
The JL Audio fronts take 10-50 watts RMS (100 watts peak).
The JL Audio rears take 10-60 watts RMS (120 watts peak).
I'm assuming that the TR series speakers are built for either factory or aftermarket headunits... without an additional 4-way amp. They're the cheapest value from JL Audio, and JL's pricier series seems to require way more wattage than any headunit could provide. Again, I'm interested in getting quality from a Pioneer headunit, not a separate 4-way amp - I'm not an audiophile and I just don't want to spend that extra money.
Will this setup work? Does that wattage seem to line up or make sense for my application?
Also, I know I'll need:
$9.95 - Metra Electronics 40-CR10 antenna adapter
$9.00 - Metra 95-3302 Installation kit/bracket thing
But do I NEED any wiring harness/adapter? Will I be able to just unbox the headunit and pop it right in? I remember on my older Chevy trucks, if I installed a Sony HU, I'd have to have a Sony -> BrandX and a Chevy -> BrandX adapter of some sort. I do not care about steering wheel audio controls, even though I have them - I don't use them. I also don't care if I lose the chimes or turn signal sounds or OnStar.

Hey, I was just wondering if you ever got the head unit installed properly and what adapter(s) you had to use. I'm thinking about the same one, but not installing the extra speakers. I driver a 06 LT sedan w/ upgraded audio system. I need a new HU, because mine is starting to glitch out like crazy.
