Bypass the XM tuner to hook up an iPod???
I know non-navi vettes, malibus and caddy's can do this but i wonder if it's something that can be done in our cars? I have XM but saw no value in it at all for me, so it sits there unused. Has anyone tried this trick? supposedly it lets you plug an ipod cable in place of the XM tuner.

I bought this...more than 5 bux, but fully integrates I-pod control into your stereo. Connects in-line with XM receiver (located behind your back seat, under the panel). Takes about an hour to install, and completely invisible if you just run the I-pod wire under the back seat cushion.

^ Can you provide some pictures of how this looks on radio's display?
I have the GM PAL, and am curious if this uses the same menu system and whether it is any better or worse.
OP: Heres a link to the GM PAL: https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/elec...adapter-68692/

I'll snap a few after work. Essentially it creates new XM channels at the end of the line-up, and within those channels you have different categories for artists, songs, albums, etc. So instead of using the 'rock' category to switch rock stations, you use the artist category to switch artists, or use the right dial to scroll through faster. I just save the XM channel as a favorite with my other radio stations and Ipod music is just a click away.
If you get it I highly recommend an I-pod Nano if possible...the interface is a little laggy when using a Touch (not too annoying unless you're scrolling through a long list of songs or artists). Haven't tried it with a Classic yet.
Edit: The hardware looks very similar to that GM kit, and probably functions very similar as well. Likely only minor differences, but in this case the USA-spec also appears to be a good deal cheaper.
2nd edit: The USA-spec unit does not require access to the radio and appear to be MUCH easier to install. All you have to do is plug it in-line to the XM receiver behind the back seat. You can run the Ipod wire anywhere you want - in my case I just tucked it under the rear seat and the plug is between the passenger seat and center console for easy access.

Here's a quick demo video of how the USA Spec adapter works -
YouTube - video 2010 09 12 08 14 09
For some reason when looking at a song's info, you'll see the name of the song under CHAN, and the album under SONG, but otherwise it works great.

There's also the DIRECT button, which basically hands over the controls to the iPod so you can find it yourself - if you have a ton of **** on your player this is probably the faster way to find a specific song.
