In Car DVD player help
alright guys my buddy gave me his old in car dvd setup, its a ESP brand (never heard of but local shop says they're close to Jensen). (i have the $80 wiring harness)
The player has been slow and skips/freezes sometime, i figure something is up with the lens so i bought one of those lens cleaner discs but the player wont read it.
Also, my am/fm tuner is wonk, it works when it wants to and not when i want it to (i have the gm adaptor)
Im scared to open the player and fiddle around with its internals, any audio specialists on here have any suggestions???
Thanks

It is common for them to skip and freeze. Happens all the time with my old dvd players. They generate too much heat and wear too quickly. The older models have a very low life span and newer disks store more information causing them to wear quicker.
I’m not expert, but I would say that is normal operation for the dvd playing. What does the tuner do? You say it doesn’t work, but how doesn’t it work? No reception, no signal at all, no output to speaker? Each of those is a separate circuit I would assume so that would be important to determining where to start looking for the problem.
Anyway, no one else answered so I figured I would do my best. I admit my knowledge is not pro quality.
