cigarette lighter??? about amplifier
I just bought a cigarrette lighter plug that has a power wire and a ground wire. I want to hook up my remote wire for my amplifer to this cigarrette lighter. I'm going to put the remote wire on the power wire of the plug but what do I do with the ground wire on the plug? Do I just leave it alone?

because my car is a lease any i don't want to drill any holes or anything.. i also don't want to put it on the fuse box because i've heard of people damaging their body control modules doing that.

yea i still have the factory deck.. but what i want to do is i have an actual cigarrette plug that plugs into the cigarrette lighter of my car.. so i can plug it in when turing the amp on and then unplug it when i want the amp off. i just don't know what to do with the ground wire on the plug since the remote wire has no ground.

the ground for the amp is still for the remote, so the power would be the only thing hooked to the lighter. I still thimk the fuse box is better, but it is just an opinion and we all know they are like a$$holes, everyone has one:-)
Any way, in my experience plugging and unplugging isn't as nice on elctronics as an actual on/off switch such as the ignition. I fool around my stereo whenever I get bored and I have tried different spot in the fuse box with no adverse reaction to the computer. just disconnect the batt to prevent "accidents and you should be fine

you dont have to use the ground wire, that circuit is already grounded, you just have to run a power wire to the amp...
That being said, the best thing is still to either go off the wiper cct or the ignition switch cct with a relay. Go to your local part store and they should have a little piece that plugs into your mini fuse socket but has a power wire coming off of it. It will usually have 2 seperate fuses so you know the cct will be safe. Run that power wire to the back of vehicle, its very easy to do, just push it under the moldings by the door and then through the rear seats. Thats much safer to do, you dont lose your cig lighter and its still properly fused.
Also you will not fry your BCM doing this at all, the power wire takes around 50mA while the wipers (the preferred cct) are fused at 10A. This is a fairly beefy circuit and the draw off the remote wire is negligible. Under your logic when the wiper motor gets old and starts to draw more current you would blow your BCM...
