Angry Circuit City? Come On!!!

So, About a week ago I went to an unfamiliar circuit city and i ordered the The double Din Pioneer PIO AViC900 (i believe) It was 1100.00 But i got it with taxes for just over 900. I went to pick it up and i had a few questions. Next thing i know all these "car audio guys" Come out with laptops and are searching my questions online. All i wanted to know was how much their LAN wiring harness was and if the deck would plug into the pioneer system. I also asked about the XM and steering wheel controls, I presumed i would need an adapter. Needless to say they had no idea and the installer told me he'd "have to tear into it and look" So, I laughed and walked out with my new deck. I did my own research and found out that it's going cost me some money to put it in the way i want it. But it'll be worth it. When did circuit city start pulling this b/s?

I worked for bestbuy and circuit city. No one knows what they are doing there. They hire young people who can just sell you stuff with limited help with technical issues.

Thing is though most people wont know such technical questions so you cant hate them too much.

Thats how they make their money. Either that or they were clueless and really didn't know. I know I went to best buy and had the same thing happen to me so instead of letting them do the install I went to my friend who is certified to work on car alarms and audio and had him do it.

That's what you usually want to do. Sometimes though they actually hire installers who REALLY know their stuff.

yeah the guy I had install mine worked at best buy after he got certified but he didn't stay cause the pay was crappy and every time he had to use the bathroom, he would have to page a manager to let him out of the install bay.

I was 17 when I worked there and they would work teens my age up until 1-2 in the morning during the christmas season. Did not do too well with my grades in high school working for them.

a few things to remember is like said most of these stores hire young people because they don't pay too much, and with todays technology it's hard to know every setup on every different car. put those 2 together, and it's a bad combo. like back in the day, there was a mechanic in town that fixed any car that was broken. now more than ever, you see one shop that works on mazdas, one that specializes in hondas and acuras, one that deals with gm cars, etc.

With all the computer/electronic crap going on in cars these days....you shouldnt be allowed to work at ANY car audio place without MECP certification...just the way I feel about it.

i agree. but it would never happen, because who wants to get certified and take classes just so they can make 8 or 9 dollars an hour. making places require certified employees would drive them out of business. or, it would increase the cost to the point that people wouldn't want to get parts installed.

big box stores are not a place you ask to install your expensive purchases in your expensive car.

scratch that, I wouldnt ask them to install an 8 track in an 84 hyundai pony....

if companies paid for the training, and paid for the classes, it would work and would be a great idea. customers would know that they are getting a great service, employees would walk away with a better education of how things work, and everyone would be happy. ideally, would you want to take your car to a place thats certified in what you're looking for? of course you would. 2 places cost the same price, one is certified, one is not. you would go to the place that's certified. but, when you add on the extra cost to offset the price of certification, now it doesn't look that way. 2 people are doing the "same job", and one is 20% more expensive. majority of people will go with who's cheaper. so it's a catch 22.

exactly. taking the cheap route costs more, because when you realize what you actually got, you end up having to pay more money to get the real deal. so now you're out the full price of a good service, plus the price of the shitty one.

There was a guy on here who had his buddy who worked at BB run 2 guage power to his amps inthe trunk from the Jumper Post in the engine bay, when stating the reason why he said because that short of wires have too much resistance, or something like that.
Is that the guy you want working on your car?

I havent gone through any car audio schooling but i'm pretty sure that if I had all all the tools and materials at my fingertips that they do I could do a better job. Unless its fiberglass work, I have come to terms with the fact that its not my strong point and i'm glad to announce that I'm now over it, thank you.

Not all CCs are like that, same goes for BB (I work at CC). It depends on the location that you go to. I know the CC I work at we have car audio installers that have been doing this for ~10 years. They could answer anything you needed. Some of that stuff I could prolly understand needing to look up but, I don't know.. It's possible you could have walked in on a day they were training people, who knows.

Not every CC has experts :\

seeing as how the battery is in the trunk....Call me crazy, but I think it would have been a piece of cake to just tap onto the batter right there???....and he's backwards on his thinking....the longer the wire the more resistance it will have, and its negligible at best....its not gonna matter to the average audio system....

its funny the circuit city by my house, the whole entire car audio department quit on the same day, because they were being worked like slaves. 80 hour weeks. so the department has been shut down for quite some time now.
