Cluster Lights, Steering Wheel Buttons & Air Bag Indicator Not Working
Hello Everyone,
Unfortunately I have quite the issue. Something in the Cobalt burned out/popped that manages the cluster lights (seat belt, traction control, low tire pressure icons), steering wheel control buttons (info, setting, not volume buttons) and the passenger air bag button (virtually between the radio and the HVAC controls), none of the lights or buttons display or work at all. This issue occurred because the passenger air bag indicator wires came into contact with one another (purple wire and another one).
I brought the car into my local dealer and they replaced the cluster but said that didn't solve any issue so they put the old cluster back in. They don't know what could be wrong and were not much help.
I'm seeing if anyone has any suggestions as to what to test for. Also where can we get the full service manual for our vehicles? I would prefer a digital copy. Thanks.

You can Google for a service manual. Just type in your year and trim.
As far as the problem you have. Check the easiest thing first. Your fuse box located on the passenger side where the air come out on the floor setting. Pop off the interior trim. The maual will tell you what each fuse is for.

Also I have not been able to find a service manual for a 08 Cobalt SS yet. Does anyone know where to download one / purchase one? I don't want to pay for some 1 year subscription crap. Just want a one time fee, or free. Thanks.

Sort of related story here.
Years ago a guy brought me his truck. His complaint was none of the dash cluster lights worked. It went to TWO dealers. Yes I said TWO FRANCHISE DEALERS and they couldn't figure it out after he spent ~$800 in diagnostic fees.
I took the truck in and pulled the cluster. Hmm odd, i'm getting power / ground where I need it.
I then remove one of the cluster illumination bulbs. Black as can be. Pop a new one in and it lights up. Proceed to replace the other 5-6 of them.
Amazing isn't it?
