Cold Cathodes

So I have ventured into wiring my car with LEDs and have become addicted.....Ive got the cupholder and Im going to travel into our Glove boxes, center console arm rest and, annoying storage space in the doors we dont ever use this weekend. Moving to the footwells and engine compartment soon and thats where my question comes in....

Neons
LED Bars
Or Cold Cathodes

Ive heard Go LED bars because they light up the area better than neons.....So unless someone has something great to say about neons they are ruled out. But Ive heard some good things about Cold Cathodes and they are pretty reasonable about $15 for 2 12in Tubes......

Have you guys seen Cold Cathodes used on vehicles? or would it be an experimental adventure? Or from your guys experience would it not provide the light otput I want. Knowing I want to light up under the hood as well......
