Double Din v. Single Din
Hey guys I have an 07 SS/SC and I want to get rid of this shitty stock deck. I am putting the system out of my trucx in here. I have 2 6 1/2 kicker DS series speakers, 2 6x9 kicker DS series both powered by a performance technique 600w/4ch amp and 2 almani 10 inch subs powered by a performance technique 1000w/2chan amp and power cap. I either want to put a double din flat touch screen,dvd,cd,mp3 the goodies or a single din flip out cd,dvd, etc. What's ur opinions? I like howthe double din looks especially the pioneer it looks almost factory but the screen is really too low to watch anything anyways. What do u think and suggestions on a unit?

The double dins fill in the space much nicer than the singles do.
The fold out ones just never looked right to me, they always came across as having that half finished look, plus I always got the feeling they were really fragile and breakable.
I have a couple buddies who had the flip out style ones and the motors went in both of them.
Most of the DD ones have ajustable sreen positions so viewing is not a problem (sunlight)
plus I think the position on mine is just right its not to low at all, high enough that I can see it, plus its a touch screen so my hand cabn rest on the shifter and still touch the screen (the remote that came with it is huge and has way to many small buttons to operate while driving) but its low enough that the light does not bother me plus you don't want it in your direct field of vision, it will distract you.
I never actually watch movies on mine, unless the little ones in the car with me, then I put in the "Cars" movie for him but you shouldn't be watching movies while your driving anyway
BTW- Mine is a JVC KW-AVX 800, its not the best one out there but its a good unit (5 volt triple pre outs, 7 inch screen, divx/avi compatable, usb and sd card reader, two video outs and one in)
All for $500.00, this years model is KW AVX 810 witch is a bit more $$ but now comes with a removable screen, like a removable face plate

the jvc avx-800 has as many features as about any other dd out there. I have the jvc in the wifes car and an alpine w505 in my cobalt and deck vs deck the jvc holds its own.

I've got a clarion max385, especially with the sub, it sounds nice with the surround sound playing a movie. Even when I'm just playing music the toutchscreen is soo convenient. I can tab back and forth between folders, I have one for each type of music, then I can scroll up and down each folder and it shows 4 song names each page, I toutch the song I want and its on. I keepa decent 90+ songs on there for my everyday driving. I looks so much better than single din and works so much easier.

ok i have decided to go with the double din and i am going with the pioneer 4000. Real quick i got the on star adapter so that will still work but the audio shop is telling me there is no module to keep my XM over to the new unit. is that true because that is like all i listen to and have it paid throught the year

yeah, it's complicated but i think there are ways to do it, but i don't know **** about audio. haha
try searching for threads on "keeping factory XM" or something like that, i know i've seen the topic pop up before.
