Each steering wheel button has an assigned resistance to it. They all connect to two wires... Both wires are behind the deck. What you do is send 12v to one of the wires and connect the other wire to the PAC interface..... When you press a button on the steering wheel it sends the 12v from the first wire through the resistor for that specific button (each one is different) and then the signal goes to the pac module.... The PAC module 'reads' the 12v through a certain resistance and then converts it to a signal that the Eclipse deck understands.

WHich model you get depends on your brand of deck.... They make universal RF interfaces, as well as specific interfaces for Eclipse, Alpine, Pioneer ect....

It makes me laugh when car audio shops who are supposed to be experts tell you there is nothing available for the Cobalt. I went to one shop and mentioned metra and the guy said whats that? Man, these guys should not be in business. The place the put my kenwood unit in told me I had the choice between Metra, another brand or custom made kit. He was even honest enough to tell me that the cheapest way to go would be metra and it's just as good as the others. I think allot of stores will tell you that there is nothing available for the Cobalt so they can try and sell you an expressive custom made kit.

I am trying to install a Kenwood in dash monitor but getting no sound. I need to figure out how to send signal through the factory amp. Please help. If I plug a speaker directly to the headunit I get sound but I dont want to rewire the whole system. I dont have the money right now to rewire and buy all new speakers at the moment. Right now my headunit is an expensive paperweight.

My car did not have OnStar. It has the mic in the headliner, and the buttons in the mirror, but didn't have onstar.. The onstar interface kit was about $120 from PAC Audio.
