You should be fine with the regular harness. Since you have an 05
Heres a place you could get it from: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-WRR9wDO...C+SWI%2DPS#Tab

So to do the complete install i will need the regular harness and also the PAC interface to use my steering wheels controls? Is that correct?

I had the Avic-D3 installed into my 06 Cobalt about a month ago. Basically I decided to get the GMOS LAN with it so that everything would remain factory like. So I even kept my retained power feature so when I turn the car off the unit still has power for a few minues or until I open the door. I also got the PAC steering wheel interface adaptor so that I keep my steering wheel controls. I find them handy because I don't have to take my eyes off the road when driving to use the touch screen.
The only problem I have is that I still can't play video while driving even though the installer by-passed the e-brake. When the car is moving the video cuts out to a warning message and when the car comes to a stop the video comes back.
Mine is installed right in the center of the dash close to the windshield.

If anyone has a 2007 Cobalt and needs that new GMOSLAN04 with the VSS wiring on it, I bought an extra one from metra directly, it took 2 months because they were on backorder. It's brand new it works really good and it's simple to install. Retains all your chimes, signals, lets you use your nav properly, and lets you watch movies. PM me if you're interested. I have a PayPal account & will only accept that method of payment. Here's some pics of the harness & avic-d3 installed:

Not 100% on if im getting the D3 or not.. but even if i do.. i still will use the steering wheel controls... its really just the volume and track forward/reverse on the wheel.. i uses those so much i feel funny touching the radio lol

I agree, the steering wheel controls are a must once you have gotten use to them. It makes it much easier and safer to skip to the next song or adjust the volume when you flying and winding down the highway.
