extremely weird electrical issues

last night I noticed something weird happening when I would turn my music up, when the bass would hit my light would flash on and off fairly frequently and my speakers would make a crackling noise (like the bass was turned up wayyyy to loud). I have never had this happen before and my first thought was something is loose, but if it was a power wire on the amps, it would just shut the amps off and not affect the headlights. If it was the car's power/ground wire then im pretty sure ALL the electronics would be affected when it came loose.

Any ideas? I have never heard of anything like this

yea I know, but HID's do not dim when the bass hits and I have never had that problem except with my interior/tail lights

also i had no problems during the day with the headlights off...weird

yea i was about to suggest voltage drop....the same gain setting for the amplifier can't be applied to different voltages...probably causing the distortion you hear.

Ah, Bickloaf.....
Electrical problems just seem to haunt you don't they? (just kidding)

You HID's are a regulated power source so they shouldn't dim at all. Its the one way to get rid of the headlight dim in theses damn cobalts, since Emp still sleeps with the plans to the dual alt setup under his pillow.

Sounds like a wierd one, its a shot in the dark but check whatever your using as a harness, if I remember right you had issues with the ground on that before..or maybe it was someone else.

Whatever it is it sounds like the problem is tied into more than just your stereo, I would have said your alt was going but that doesn't explain the crackle in your speakers, since the LAN-04 is connected to electronics and your stereo (for the lack of a better way to say it) then I thought it might be your problem.

lol i'm flattered but there really aren't plans to give even if i tried. The guy who did it for me is just a good welder who has done alot of bullshit car audio custom stuff so the whole idea and workings was just hit or miss type deal. luckily it all worked out in the end but it isn't or wasn't nearly as easy as it seems.

plus if i did have plans it would only be possible for the LSJ

I just figured I haven't been around for a while, I should give you guys a hard time.

I see things don't change much. That was directed at you brickloaf (lol)

Added-You had to do some cutting to get it in there, but was that because it was a bigger alt (the second one). Would you need to cut if you used another cobalt alt?

lol i was going to ask how u were doing but i was just sorta heading out. as far as the cutting goes probably.... if you got a smaller alt you probably wouldn't have to cut as much but still unless its really tiny your going to have to cut some. stock LSJ alts arent really that small. in comparison to the ohio gen ya theres a difference but still

LOL @ rubber mallet, glad to see it works

JJ, just started a new job in the shop today, glad to see the audio questions on here aren't half as stupid as the ones I get asked in person.

"Where's the loudness option at...ok turn it all the way up for me. Where do you put the trebles up?"

"Well sir, you only have 4 bands for the graphic equalizer, but if you turn the 10 khz up it's almost the same a..."

"Nah man I just want to turn the treble up.."

2 minutes later:

"Let me show you also how to operate the high pass filt..."

"Don't worry about that...how do you make it change colors?"

And of course I don't know the answers to stupid **** like that so he thinks I'm a moron.

I love this job already.

"Hey I want to put this 19" flip down in my convertible, can you do it?"

Thats the problem these days everyone thinks that there an expert because they read an article on the internet. With 16 years in the biz I could fill a book with stupid audio questions LOL.

Glad you figured out the problem OP.
