Factory HU to Factory HU Question

I have a 2005 SS/SC, and want a simple and clean solution to play my iPod. Rather than install an aftermarket HU or do any fancy stuff (ran an FM modulator, extra power supply, iPod charger and line out, with a switch for the modulator, all hidden from view on my last car), I would prefer to just swap my HU with a newer factory ss/sc HU that has the headphone jack. My question is, will that work (DIC, XM, etc.), or are the HU's programmed for specific cars some sort of way? If so, does anyone know how to reprogram it, or can a dealer do it? I know it should work, and in theory everything seems possible, but I'm wondering if anybody has any personal knowledge on the subject.

Couple of things here. Other people have posted about this and it boils down to.. sorta. Looking at the wiring diagrams, you will need to rewire and reharness to adapt to the different placements of the 07 radios. You will absolutely need to go to a dealer to have the radio "re-learn" the VIN of your car, or else it will be locked. Barriers are being broken, I'd recommend on looking back through posts in the last 90 days or so.

Found it, just didn't try the right search terms before. This may be over my head, and my local dealer has never heard of the Stage 1 or 2 kits, and just told me over the phone that the new HU should just plug right in, so they're no help, they'll tear my car up worse than I would. Thanks for the info though.

There are ways to tap in your radio and use modules, and I believe that may be less of a hassle than putting in a new radio. I would hold off on the radio idea until one of us puts a simple how to together showing us everything involved. Sorry man.
