Factory Mirror Wire Diagram
I'm swapping my factory onstar mirror with a Gentex Autodim / Compass / Temp. The gentex only requires a 12v source, ignition, ground, and switch. I have everything taken care of except for the switch wire.
I put a volt meter up to all the factory wires and found the grn/blk wire to be the best candidate, it jumps voltage when the key is on or when the doors open etc... My problem is the gentex will now light up the map lights when the car is running, then when I turn the key off and open the doors they will go out. Basically the switch wire is having the opposite effect that I need (map lights come on when the door is open, turn off when the car is started up)
Am I using the right wire as a switch? Does anyone have a pinout for the factory mirror?
blue/white - 12v source
black - ground?
green/black - switch?
green/white - ?
yellow/black - ?
light brown - ?
brown/white - ?

That "switch" wire on the Gentex is a +12v dome light trigger. From what I have found the dome light wire in car is gray off the BCM. I believe they have dome light wires running up the driver A pillar if its not there then its the driver C pillar. Your gonna have to use a relay to change from - switching to +12v.

Was able to tap into the gray dome trigger in the BCM, It still has the opposite effect as the wire I was using previously. Not having dome lights in the mirror is really going to bug me.
Is such a relay available at radio shack?

Wheh, finally able to figure everything out. I tried about 1/2 dozen different things and stumbled upon one combination that worked. I ended up swapping the 12v source and Ignition wires. And then tapped into the door trigger plug behind the hood release. No relay's required.
The mirror still functions as normal and I now have the map lights come on/off when the drivers door is open/close! Problem solved, although the process was a real PITA!!
