factory with sub?

ive been more only performance so i dont know much about the audio system in our cars. i do know there is a amplifier for the sub and speakers and something about it being hard to put a upgraded sub in the car with a new amp.

so what does it take to install a standard 500W amp to a solid cone 10 in the factory sub enclosure.

some things i have heard:
-there are rca or some sort of output jack on the back of the stock headunit? can i use those as amp feed and just install a matched resistor into the factory sub harnes so it thinks its still playing a sub even though it isnt?
-u have to bypass a section of the factory amplifier and **** seems to get harder to do at that point?

thanks for the info
alex

line out converter (LOC), new amp, amp wiring kit, and 10" sub that meets the depth/airspace requirements of the factory enclosure, that is what you will need. No its not hard, and no you don't need to bypass the amp. It relatively easy on our cars to install and aftermarket sub, even w/o swapping the headunit.

ya and easiest way to stop the stock sub from playign before you put a new one in is to unplug it. then you can tap those wires for the loc. with the battery in the trunk its pretty easy to install. the only "hard" part is finding remote but if you really want to be lazy then buy a sub amp with an audio sense turn on (like kicker) **** you can even use the high level inputs and take out the middle man loc. just remember the only sub that fits in the stock box is a shallow

****, we use those locs that have a sense turn on built in. when it gets input from the right channel it shoots out voltage to a remote wire that comes off the loc....its pretty nice actually....and i hate LOCs

It means cheap way of temporarily fixing something.

In this case I would prefer a correctly hard wired new complete system and the 20$ loc is a cheap way around all of that. Thats just my op though

well i guess it depends on how you do it really. if you solder the wires off the LOC is it hard wired? or better yet some come with terminals and if your replacing the factory sub you can just cut off the stock sub plug and use those 4 wires in the terminals of the LOC is that hard wired? cheap is debatable because you can get a processor and use that as your loc. something like the rockford fosgate 3sixty.2 is a 700 dollar loc so i think that takes the cheap option out of it

all an LOC does is allows you to ad an amplifier without having to replace the factory radio and to be 100% honest in a car like ours without acc its a lot less ghetto to keep the factory radio then replace it.

i get what your saying but if you get a good loc and do a good job at installing it there's nothing wrong with that

an loc as a band aid? lol it's a viable solution to many vehicles....matter of fact it is THE most prominent solution for adding aftermarket subwoofer/amp combos in cars these days, especially ones with oem faceplates that don't allow for a new radio without cutting the dash up or custom fabricating an entirely new console/faceplate.....ask any installer...we put $20 LOCs in $100,000 BMW 7-series, lexuses, etc. all because it's damn near impossible to replace the factory radio without having to pay an ungodly amount of money.

the only thing that's really a "band-aid" in car audio is a ground loop isolator or, arguably, an electrolytic capacitor....

If you don't like the LOC option, get a processor like JJ said....but it's still an LOC by all means....

IMO the best solution is to change the stock radio.

meh maybe.....I'm guessing that if I do wall it the numbers won't show well unless the doors are open and this bass off calls for closed doors and windows, but you can modify the interior any way you want....I've got an explorer I can do it in but the inspection on it is rejected....I feel like it'd be more effective in the explorer....but who knows, might do the cobalt for the lols

You can always just tap in to the rear speakers, run the wire to a line out converter, then to the amp. I have a whole how-to guide on how to do that. Doesn't require any splicing of any existing wires. I like to think of it is an add-on. I don't have the rear sub but it won't make any difference really.

Install subs/amp without splicing existing wires

I will note this though. If your amp has a high-level in spot, or plug with wires that you can attach the wires coming from the rear speakers, I would go that route, as you will get a lot better bass out of it. I have to update my how-to with that option.

depending on the explorer the wall might be better off in it. more room and less "cab" persay. coupes are sorta a bitch to put walls into
