I used to have this problem on older cars....70's and 80's cars... like EmperorJJ1 said, you need a relay. You can get them at an auto parts store for maybe $6 or $7..?? Buy a 25 amp or 30 amp relay. It is just a little black box with a few places to connect wire. They sometimes have a little wiring diagram on the top of the little black housing. A small switch just cant handle a fan. You still need the small switch. The small switch turns on power at the relay, and the relay sends power to the fan. Make sense?? Power goes from your battery or wherever to the relay, and then to the fan, with heavier wire. The relay has a "built-in" switch inside it. When you turn on the switch, it turns on the relay. So, you also need a smaller gauge wire to go from the switch to the relay. All you have to do is make sure you wire the relay correctly. Maybe use a power source for the switch that turns off with the ignition, so the switch kills power to the fan when the car is off. Otherwise, you will leave it on and the battery will be dead when you come back to your car. Trust me on that one. It WILL happen. For the switch, you can usually use a small 5 amp power source to turn on the relay. Ground the switch if it has a light or LED in it too.
