few questions regarding XM and 06 ss sound system
Hey guys, just got done installing some upgraded door speakers today, trying to make some subtle improvements to the stock pioneer sound system in my 06 SS/NA. TS-G1644R's are what I went with, got the entire set for 27 bucks on sale on amazon, along with some metra GM speaker connectors to make the install super simple. Excellent sound quality with the factory amp now, they dont max out, now I can hear the 6x9 pegging out way before the 6 1/2's ever come close.
I noticed on my roof that I have a secondary antenna which i believe has an XM symbol on it. However when I press AUX on my headunit it doesnt have any other options besides the FM tuner. Now i wanted to give the XM a try (they were giving away free trials) or at the very least, I need to figure out a way to get my iPOD to hook up to this damn thing without changing the entire headunit. Frankly id like to avoid going through all that with this car, given that I want to keep the steering wheel controls and such, id like to not have to spend 500 bucks for a double din with all the fixings to get it to work correctly if I can just get some extra options with this thing. 6 channels SUCKS, i had HDradio on my integra prior to this and i had at least 2 options on each channel and my ipod, which was fantastic.
Any solutions to my dilemma here? How would I even go about determining if this car had the XM or not? I assume it was just included with the pioneer system?

Ya I bought the harness to keep the steering wheel controls but for some reason my radio reset one day and the controls stopped working. The tweeters are 1inch. They fit the same way the stock ones do but there is soldering required.

you do realize the new speakers are shittier then the old ones. the reason they dont "peg out" is because they have no bass response and are only getting half power.
math will be a little rough but lets just keep it simple 270w peak = 135w rms/ 6 channels = 22.5w per speaker /2 = 11.25w rms on the new speakers.
math will be a little rough but lets just keep it simple 270w peak = 135w rms/ 6 channels = 22.5w per speaker /2 = 11.25w rms on the new speakers.

lol if you really want to know what i have in my car you can look it up. Ive posted several build threads.... The only advantage the speakers you bought have is a tweeter. The tweeter is probably better quality than the stock one if that makes you feel any better?
Either way whats done is done i highly doubt you are going to buy new speakers at this point but if you really want to see do a side by side test. Reinstall one of the stock fronts. Play a quality song on the CD player (non MP3, not burned) set the EQ to flat and fade to just the front. Then at medium volume pan back and forth from the left and right and see which sounds better.
listen if you like them then thats fine but the simple fact that they are 4 ohm speakers tells me you didnt install a single woofer then compare it with stock on a quality music

First of all, no company in existance makes a 2ohm 6.5" speaker that would fit in the door, second of all, pioneer doesnt even make a single 2ohm 6.5" speaker or a 6 3/4 speaker. So where do you get the impression that the factory speakers were some how 2ohm voice coils? Because I said the amplifier is 2ohm stable? Because if thats the case almost every aftermarket amp is 2ohm stable, doesnt mean the speakers are.

thats 4 companies that currently make 15 different 2 ohm speakers sets (not including the 4 comp sets by JBL/infinity).
I never at any point said pioneer made 2 ohm aftermarket speakers as they haven't at least not in the last 10 years or so but they did make 2 ohm OEM speakers, and they used them in cobalts. btw i got the impression the speakers are 2 ohm stable by testing it on the speakers i pulled out of my door 6 years ago. but if you still don't believe me then go buy a multimeter and test them urself.

Yeh, and like i suspected, they measured between 3.6 and 3.8ohms, because they ARENT 2ohm speakers, they are 4ohm speakers exactly like what I put in the car. I couldnt give a **** if you spent 10,000 bucks on the system you put in your car, and I could care less if you worked for infinity themselves, but telling me that the speakers I installed are utter dogshit compared to stock couldnt be farther from the truth. You self entitled jokers make me laugh, thinking that everything that isnt yours sucks. You drive a cobalt, a glorified cavalier, dont know where you get the impression that anything stock on this car would somehow be glorious compared to what the aftermarket offers.
