Gauge Malfunctions

I had to jump start my 2007 cobalt last night, and today my gauges are malfunctioning. My fuel gauge goes erratic, but then is fine. It also says my power steering went out, but it hasn't. It has never done this before. What is wrong?

im gessing your battery has croked and is not puting out the proper voltage, electronics do some weard stuff when they dont get the proper voltage. get a volt meter and to a voltage test or take it to autozone and have them do a load test

Check the alternator as well.

Mine did the same thing when my alt went out, but my power steering actually kept going out.

Both x2. My battery took a dump, but my gauges still worked after a jump. I bet you have a battery at the mininum out, possibly the alternator. My car throw a CEL, after mine went out.

I don't know where to post this, so hopefully someone can help or point me in the right direction. I'm trying to hook up an aftermarket water temp gauge, i bought a mechanical one thinking it would be easiest but it didn't dawn on me that id have to take out the stock sensor to install a new one and then my computer wouldn't know what the temp was, so i went and got and electrical one thinking you'd splice t in with the old one, or plug it in. But, wrong again, it also came with a new sensor to replace the old one. I read somewhere that you could buy a tee so both could still be used, but I didn't know if there was any way to splice into the stock one somehow. The gauge i bout has a power, ground, and then another wire that hooks up to the new sensor with a ring terminal and nut.

Thanks
