hardwiring radar detector

im wanting to hardwire my radar detector, but i dont want to cut my lighter cord, is that just a normal phone type wire? or where can i buy a wire like that to use? thanks

you can get a straight wire that has a in line fuse and everything from any electronic store radio shack etc i got mine from electronic express for 9 bucks

so does that have the phone line type connection on it?

most have the headphone type jack 9mm or 8 not sure but if you have beltronics then you need the phone jack one http://www.bestradardetectors.net/Be...d_p/bel-dw.htm

If you are using an escort you can buy a hardwire kit for it. It will have the phone jack that you need and it will have all the things you need to hook it into the circuitry

with mine i ran the wire from the radar accross the seal between the dash and windshield, then down the side of the dash into the glove box, the cord runs out of length right about here so i took a 10' lighter extension ran that from the glove box down the center (by the shifter)... then i took out the lighter by the e brake and connected it under the the e brake housing...here i split the extension and connected it to a toggle switch...just keep the radar on and use the toggle to complete the circuit....works fine for me and u cant see any wires cept bout 2 inches from the radar to the seal
