I just installed some Focals and I mounted them in the same place. On the door panel, the little plastic piece that looks like it should come off but doesn't!!

Nope, the plastic piece is attached to the door panel. It has tabs on it that are melted down so the plastic piece wont come off. Kind of like a plastic weld. You can probably take it off and then reattach, but it seemed like too much work and I already had the door panel off so it did not really matter.

I also have manual mirrors, place them here, and if you can, rotate the tweeter upward towards the headrest to get the best acoustics. Here's my car/the example you would need:
Oh, and as for the crossovers....inside your door panel theres a little inlet with a section of yellow door foam...drill in the screws there to secure the crossover.

I plan on having mine placed in the same spot that the factory pioneer tweeter was installed. On the little black plastic piece next to the pillar. I went with MTX speakers all the way around with a MTX 4-channel amp to power them. Waitig on the rest of my items to come in through the mail and hopefully will have everything installed in about a week and a half or so. I can't wait!
I would appreciate it if everyone would request that a MTX Thunderform be built for our Cobalts. I really want one to complete my radio. PLease fill out the form at MTX.com or click the Link below.

yeah, it does, when i bought mine... that was the major selling point between a 1LT and a 2LT...
no one could get a 2LT 5 speed, so i bought an SS instead.

For proper stereo imaging and frequency range blending, your tweeters should be installed as close to your mids as possible, but do your best to angle them towards your listening position. Read the explanation I wrote in post #39 in the "Sound Quality Systems (pics)" thread. Here's a pic of my components.

GM installed the factory tweets high because it was a convenient and clean place to put them, not because they sound better there. They will not blend with your mid range very well up there. Here's an explanation I wrote in another thread:
I did some research on stereo imaging before I did the install and I found some info that recommended mounting the tweeters as close to the mids as possible. However, make sure you use angle mounts to point them towards the most important listening position, the driver's seat! This is important because higher frequencies are more directional than low frequencies. Another reason for mounting them low is the distance of each tweeter from your ear becomes closer to equal. For example, if your tweeters are mounted in the a-pillars, the one on the left will be about a foot from the drivers head, while the the one on the right will be around 3+ feet away. If you mount them near the bottom of the door panels, the distance evens out slightly with the tweeter in the left door panel being about 2 feet away, and the tweeter on the right being around 3 feet away. If you mount them in the kickpanels, the distance evens out even more! But then you have no room for your feet!
