Has anyone tried one of these? SoundRacer

YouTube - Sound Racer V8 Peugeot 106 S16

I am thinking about getting one for grins.
Reason for getting it, I miss my old V-8 cars and for grins I would like to hear that sound while driving.

I also had my iPod cable stolen, and as such, this device supposed to come with a cable that plugs from my iPod to it. It is also a digital broadcaster for my iPod to play through the radio...

In other words, it cost the same as what a broadcaster that does not offer the gimmick side benefit of playing the sound of a V-8 through the speakers so I am going to probably get one.

The reason I ask if anyone has one, is some cars it will NOT work on.
I looked at their application list, and the Chevy Cobalt nor Pontiac Sunfire was on the list.

The device detects the voltage increases and drops of the alternator through the cigarette lighter. This modifies what is transmitted to your stereo, and the sound follows your RPMs. In some cars it matches dead on, some close and some not at all.

I notice that the SoundRacer V8 seems to be better for lower revving cars and the V10 model is better for higher revving cars.

Again, it is a cheap gimmick like the Vroom Box, but the Vroom Box was $350+ and this is only $35. I spent $50 on a non-digital broadcaster for my wife's iPod 2 years ago.

Anyone have one? Does it work on the Cobalt?

It is for grins as I said before.

When I get bored enjoying the old sounds of like when I was driving my old Camaro IROC three years ago, I will just use it for my iPOD.

If it was more than $30, I would not do it.
I have spent $30 on games that wound up not even working on my computer and they have a no return policy, so yes, I have spent more on less useful things... lol

Uh oh, he just trumped the 1.0 Geo with a 1.3 Swift! Maybe you should get the SoundRacer V10 model in the Swift and he can have the V8 version.

I will put the V-12 version in my 2.2 Cobalt, we will race for pinks!

lol

The product makes me laugh a little, and yes, for some twisted reason that alone makes me want it.

I do miss the sound of my old V8s though. I have gone through many F bodies.

Yes, they did do that.

It was called Vroom Box. Honestly, I believe Vroom Box no longer is being sold.

Warning: most websites you Google for Vroom Box lands websites with viruses...

It had tons of options to it rather than one like the SoundRacer.
In other words, when you buy a V8 SoundRacer, there is no selector switch to sound like anything else, you have to buy the V10 or V12 model also.

Vroom Box allowed you to sound like a flat 6, a Vespa, a Tank, Lamborghini Diablo, 77 Corvette, a Fat Boy Harley, and pretty everything in between... it had uploadable sounds from the net too.

The Vroom Box went for $350 or so. The speakers and hardware were not included.
I think that the Vroom Box sounds less realistic, but was more reliable it seems...

If I had a ton of money, for grins I probably would get it.

But right now, $30 is high for me...
