head unit, gm lan, wheel controls

i know this has been debated/posted plenty of times but i didnt want to install my hu with a reg harness and have problems in the future. anyway i went to my dealership and raised hell until they gave me what i wanted (although i didnt get a print out) i was able to look at the wiring of the stock hu and stock wheel controls.... doesnt look good. the radio actually controls some of the low level gm lan stuff. Now unfortunatly the service mangager was fed up with me so i didnt get to ask in detail what that is but it is hooked to the low level gm lan. Now im not sure what diy stuff people have tried to do with the steering wheel controls but i thought i would post info on this too just in case. THe steering wheel controls for some dumb ass reason are hooked up to/ in conjunction with the air bag system.

yeah..well..most people dont care enough about the steering wheel controls...if they do they'll pay the $$ and get a proper harness....good info though...but for anyone considering getting a new h/u put in, its not difficult at all and can be done quickly as long as you have the right harness..
