Lightbulb Head Unit Install Info

Well I just purchased a Pioneer AVIC-Z1 and did a search and could not find much for install. i was think that maybe we could get a list going on popular units and extra accessories we need to install them. Any other input would be welcome. I will update with actual pics of my kit when I get it and any other info people give to me.

So far the products I think need for the install the Z1 are:

PAC SWI-PS for Pioneer Steering Wheel Adapter

Scosche GM1599B 2004 - Up Pontiac / Chevrolet ISO Double Din Radio Installation Kit or Metra 95-3302

METRA 12-VOLT INTERFACE WIRE HARNESS XSVI-2103

Optional Accessories

For those that want XM and Navtraffic: Pioneer EX-P10XMT

Pioneer GEX-P5700TV TV Tuner

PIONEER CD-IB100II iPOD ADAPTER

Pioneer ND-BT1 Bluetooth adapter

Pioneer CD-R5 DVD Remote

PIONEER CD-SR1 STEERING WHEEL REMOTE

Any info on the installation of this item would be greatly appreciated as well as pics.

XSVI-2103

this will keep everything except onstar, which means still have your factory sub and amp, but overpriced considering the cheap on does the same things

Thanks! plus 1 rep for the info

Anyone else have any suggestions.

Once I have every thing that I know I will need I will put something together with pics for future use.

that is also the right pac adapter. Just follow the instructions and it is easy to install.

Then also I figured out where the VSS wire is that you need for navigation.

Its next to the fuse panel on your passenger side. Take the kick panel off and there are two blue harnesses you want to remove the one that is vertical no horizontal. That is BCM C2 if you tap the vss wire to the grey wire at pin 62 that should give you your feed for the vss wire.

also go to www.avic411.com, they have a hack so you dont have to hook up the ebrake wire that way you can sue the navigation and dvd functions while the car is in motion. its very easy

im going with the metra double din which is 95-3302 but the scosche works too. Im also doing the sirius add on and I just traded in my zune for the ipod and the harness so the pioneer can fully interface with it

So which do people prefer, the Scosche din kit or the metra din kit?

I was looking around and was about to buy this and right at the bottom on the page it says does not retain factory warning chimes. Is this true? I know it may not be a big deal but I would prefer not to loose a thing.

if you have an 05-06 the chimes are not in the radio and any harness will work. the only thing you lose in those years is the onstar

Thanx for this thread. I just ordered a Avic D3 w/ PAC SWI-PS, XSVI-2103, and the Pioneer XM Nav Traffic Box.

Also it sounds like if you have an IPOD the D3 is the perfect choice becuase you just keep the DVD nav disc in the drive and music on the IPOD, no need for the extra $1000 for the Z2.

I have only done one install in my past with a radio in my 01 S10. But I have the factory manual, and lots of wiring experience with nitrous and piggy backs in my car. Wish me luck!

I couldn't find the XSVI-2103 ANYWHERE locally, I had to order it from installer.com why are they so hard to find?

pm'd back. The XSVI is a marketing gimmick. The cheap harness did all the same things that one claims to do with no special wiring at all

Well I am close to the finish line but I had to call it quits and head to bed.

I have everything ready and wired up with the exception of the steering wheel controller and The GPS antenna.

I had to put the XM in the glove box because there is no where else to put it.

Big thumbs up for Cobalt Kid 06 for giving me his phone number and walking me through the VSS wire and giving me some more pointers!

I haven't installed the steering wheel controller yet. Let me know how it goes and maybe some pics and tips would be nice.

I just got the steering wheel installed. Sorry guys not pictures. I am struggling as it is without documenting it My tip is the go online to the PAC website @ http://www.pac-audio.com/swixprogram...rogramming.asp and using that to hook it up and then using the enclosed instructions to program it.

However while everything is installed and working I realized the DASH isn't deep enough to house the D3 popperly. How is everyone dealing with this.

OK so the fan was sticking out and keeping it from pushing .. Since I am a geek I know how important FAN flow is to keeping the unit working for a long life.

So I trimmed the lip on the bezel on the 95-3302 kit to allow the unit to sit farther forwards.

Then I trimmed the plastic that sits behind the fan and I was able to slide it right in flush and have some air space for the fan.

I still need to replace the little black insert in between the headed seats button punch out. That was home to the previous AUX input for the stock radio.

HERE IT IS!

I unbolted the piece behind the radio and there is a tone of room. I will try and take a pic when I pull the unit out to put the pac swi-pc unit in.
