Head Unit/stereo
So I have heard many different things about replacing the stock stereo with an aftermarket one. I have an 06 2.4l ss coupe WITHOUT pioneer system and WITHOUT Onstar. If I replace the stock stereo, am i going to lose the information center on my dash under the gauges? PLEASE HELP!
P.S. I am new to all this. Just turned 16 and got the car. Thanks

this is stickyed in the stereo FAQ that JJ so kindly laid out for everyone which is probably why nobody has answered your thread yet, but because I've done some ******* things like not using the search button as well I'll humor you and let you know that you will not lose any information from your dash.

Thank you very much. I have seen other threads talk about it and some have said you will and some that you wont lose information. Is it also true that some of the wires go through the airbag system? What will that mean?

The airbag part is from ondemand5. Have you heard of it? I looked up the wiring diagram and it shows that the speakers go through the airbag system if that makes any sense. The stereo doesnt show going through the airbags, just the speakers.

what do you guys think about this stereo.
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1306300...6300UB&tp=5684
towards the bottom of the page it shows a yellow triangle and says installation detail. It states that i will have to buy an adapter or lose the information center. I want to make sure one last time, so will i lose it or not. now that everyone can see what it actually says. The adapter is $100 dollars.

ok, so my cobalt has 13 wires running to it, does that make sense. What wires will i need to run to get the door chimes to work? metraonline says that the harness( 70-2103) doesnt run an ignition wire.

Don't worry about the door chimes. Key in and headlights on dings still work with no modification. Run the red ignition wire down to the fuse box on the passenger side of the center console. use the fuse tap that comes with the harnesses and tap the window fuse, this will retain the RAP feature.
