head unit w/ pioneer sound system

My girlfriend went look for headunit for me for Christmas and the salesman said that it would cost around 400 to put one in bc of my pioneer sound system. Is this true or does he not know what he is talking about?

x2. if it is an 07 the wiring harness can get very expensive. i've spent over $200 on just the wiring harness and the double din dash kit.

no...it he wants to charge you $400 tell him he's a moron! 06 gets off easy with the harnesses. the harness and dash kit should cost you maybe $100 on the high end...if they are installing it for you they may charge you labor but it shouldn't be $300 in labor...that's ridiculous!!!

She should buy mine for you, $100 for everything, just plug in and go. It's a Pioneer also, sounds great, everything you need to install.

i would recommend that ^^^ nice unit nice & price especially for plug and play

dash kit is 20
harness would be 15-20

He probably thought you needed the 150 dollar harness and the 140 dollar kit. High end would be 90 bucks for the install (should be around 50) so if they charged you for shipping and possibly shop parts it may round up to 400.

He could have also ment an amp bypass. In which case the install should cost a good 150 (they arent fun)

So he might not have necessarily been trying to rip you off but just uninformed on what you do and dont need for an 06 cobalt. Memorizing all this **** for every car especially when harnesses and dash kits change a few times per model, Its really impossible.
