Help with a coming install
So I'm installing a system on Sunday and had a few questions for everybody that has already been through this. I have a 2007 Cobalt LS and I'm having an alarm installed Saturday so now its time to do a system. I'm installing a panasonic double din cqvd6503u, zapco 4 channel and a 500/1 with a 10w7 in a sealed box and memphis coaxials all around. I'll probably use 4 gauge to the amps, maybe 0 to a distribution block first and a 1 farad cap.
Question #1 I have a Zapco amp that's about 300 watts RMS and a JL 500/1 so we're talking about 800 watts max RMS. I already have a 1 farad monster cap from my last car. I'm wondering if I'm going to run into problems with my battery and/or charging system with these amps? Is anyone else running about the same amount of power and how has it worked out so far? I had the 500/1 and a slightly smaller amp (250 rms) for my mids and tweets in my VW and had no problems but I've heard that the stock alternator in a VW is stronger/bigger.
Question #2 I'm running into a lot of mixed opinions on the Head unit install. Am I going to need a wiring harness to retain chimes on an 07? Can I even get a harness for an 07 with base model stereo? Is there room at all behind the head unit for RCA's?
I appreciate any input from anybody that has any experience with this. I've talked to sales people, installers and searched the heck out of the internet but haven't heard a consistant answer! I want to have everything I need so this goes smoothly. Thanks a lot in advance! -Daniel

yes you will need a wireing harness and since you have the 07 its going to be pricy and a PITA. room is very limited for the head unit but ive herd you can dremel out the piece in the way
my current amp is an 801x (800w) but im only using 2 channels so far... im not sure if that helps because im not using the full power of the amp but ive yet to run into problems (then again i dont have a volt meter either)

Hey thanks for the input, so I guess that would be a metra GMOS04, the harness a salesman told me I would need but it was for a different model car and then after reading the faq wasn't sure if I needed it or not. I guess I will pick up that and a dash kit and hope for the best. And bring my dremel! Thanks again!
