HELP:Radio turns off when putting window down
can anyone help me out? my buddy has an 05 cobalt ss s/c. He put in an aftermarket head unit pioneer last summer and has not had any problems until now. When he goes to put his window down the radio shuts off. Any audio people know whats wrong? He said he checked the wiring and everything is ok but something has to be wrong. Any ideas or suggestions?

Lol, sorry, that's kinda funny if you think about it.
But anyway, sounds like it's running on the power source of something else in the car. Switch which fuse he uses for a power source.\
On a side note, shouldn't the power source just be the fuse for the radio? or are the amp requirements for the aftermarket one higher?

the cobalts have the rear external amp so it has to be run off the antenna wire or else the amp won't click on in which case there will be no power to your speakers unless you run your own wiring to everything. he used to do custom installs and i've done a few so we are not newbs, just confused as to what is going on. i'm thinking he missed something in the wiring tho, if anyone has anymore ideas or suggestions please say so. thanks for the responses so far guys.

Putting a bigger fuse in is a bad idea you dont want it to be too large and not protect the wire/unit.
Try a different switched source and see if that solves it.
What about all the other wiring its it all to the harness or did y'all do something different? Mainly the constant and ground not so much worried about the speaker wires.

^^ i'm not sure what all he did, i believe its hooked up like mine is, with the axcess or w/e harness to all the specified locations and my eclipse unit runs great. i will go over it with him this weekend and see if we cant figure it out, but i figured maybe someone had this happened to them. after searching the forums i found that noone did so i made this thread. i guess he just has a wiring issue somewhere along the lines.

im thinking gm lan or possibly a very bad electrical. the power window motors suck up current like no other but it would take a bit to get an electrical that bad. I would meter the power/acc when rolling the windows up and down to see what the voltage reads and you will know from there. if its not dropping check all ur wires to make sure something weird isnt going on with that gm lan. also check the stock batt terminals. they are often loose if you install a ring terminal on them
