!help!speaker problems
2006 Cobalt SS 2.4.
Stock Hu and speakers
BOTH speakers cut in and out randomly. Sometimes weekly. Other times I go months with no front speakers.
Took entire dash apart and followed wires, wiggling and shifting 'em the whole time with radio on. NO sound.
Took door panel off, nothing remarkable to report.
I have no issue with my blinker sounds or door chime.
The ONLY other electrical problem I have had is that VERY RARELY the gauges on the cluster will bounce around. but only 2 or 3 times in 3 years.
The speakers are not blown as they DO come in perfectly when they work & BOTH speakers cut in and out at the same time.
I am looking to put subs in the back, but think its pointless to upgrade the system with no front speakers...
PLEASE HELP!!

Find a multi meter, plug the leads to connectors at the speakers and set it to a/c volts, play something on the h/u. you should see some numbers(doesn't really matter what they are as long as the display is not the same as when it is not connected to something). Then you have ruled out the h/u and wiring, If it reads nothing switch to ohms and remove h/u, test each wire at a time with one lead at speaker connector and the other lead at the radio connector. If it shows a value your wire is good and it has to be in the h/u. You can also check the resistance of the speakers to see if you are having a coil bind or moisture issue by setting to ohms, plugging your leads into your connector on the speaker(with it disconnected) and gently pushing the cone in a few mm with your hand. The read out should change based on the depth it moves but it shouldn't read below the speaker's rating which is either 2 or 4 ohms.
