I'm an idiot-subwoofer question

Alright I'm trying to hook up a single sub. I've got a two channel amp running it, connected to the speakers thru a line out. I connected the L+ and R- to the sub and crossed the L- and R+. The sub is hitting but 90% of the time it's not noticable above the speakers then at a certain part of the song you'll get a huge bass boom out of the blue. It's not a power issue to the amp - I watched the power/protect lights and the power was constantly lit without blinking and no sign of a protect light. Any idea as to how to fix this?

First off do you still have the speakers hooked up to the same line as the line out is on?

Second what brand LOC and what brand/model amp and sub are you using.

I take it when you say you used L+ and R- you mean you bridged it, but what do you mean when you say you crossed the L- and R+?
