Installed Headunit Thread

I am looking for everyone that has installed an aftermarket cd player in the SS/SC. I need three types of informantion from you guys:

1. How much did you spend on wiring harness(s)? Not including dash kit, crimp caps, etc.

2. What brand harness are you using and where was it purchased?

3. Are you experiencing any problems or have any features that you had with the stock headunit been lost. (ex: Onstar, XM radio, Information Center, DTCs, Airbag problems, etc)

I want this to be available so that this may make future installs for member that much easier.

Thanks guys,
Josh

1. I spent about $15 plus shipping on the GM harness.

2. It is made by Metra and hopefully it will work with minor modifications at most.

3. It is on the way so I am unsure as to the outcome of the harness. Maybe if anyone else has purchased this harness, thwy will be able to inform us.

Ok then, here's another question for you guys.

What did you guys do with that second conector which I beleive is for onstar. It's the smaller harness with 8 wires?

1. Got wiring harness and dash free with HU purchase from crutchfield. The HU might be a few bucks more from Crutchfield but what you save in accessories makes up for it.

2. Didn't pay attention to it, but probably Metra.

3. No, everything works. I used the PAC SWI-ALP to keep the steering wheel controls with my new Alpine HU.
