Question questions about installing aftermarket pioneer h/u

hi all, im looking into buying a new headunit and the one im looking at is pioneer.
i drive a 06 cobalt with pioneer stock and without onstar. do i need to get a cable harness or an adapter of some sort?

also it is my understanding that there is a sock sub in my car already, and it does all the work as far as splitting the four wires (2+ 2-) running from the back of my h/u into 7 channels. is this true? i havent been able to find one and as far as i can tell its inaccessible.

heres a link to the specific unit i was thinking about buying:
http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-DEH-22...8359116&sr=1-8

thanks for reading and and feedback here would be greatly appreciated!

u need a harness antenna adapter and dash kit. 99-3002, 70-2103, gm antenna adapter. you will need to run the acc to the fuse box since the stock radio uses data but all that should be in the bag. no need to split any wires the factory amp will take care of that

the car uses data known as gm lan to operate the radio (when it turns on and illumination) so there is no wire that turns on and off with the car you must run that to the fusebox and with a fusetap or ad a fuse piggyback off something else.

For the most part cars with electronic mirrors and windows have the acc and "rap" feature in the sunroof and wiper fuses

okay so i got everything installed today, and it turned out kinda interesting. i wired my harness, matched all colors and ran my acc wire to my pwr window fuse. radio powers on with car and works fine on acc.

first thing i noticed, no sound from my speakers.. just my subs. i think i need to do a amp bypass?

secondly, my info panel thermometer seems to think its 80 degrees? really have no idea what to do with this one. haha just a tad below 80 here in sub artic michigan.

any help is appreciated

as long as your harness is blue not gray (meaning u have the right one) all you should need to do is hook up the blue white remote wire

Did you hook up power into the red wire in the cobalt harness? the wire from the fusebox should go directly to the radio and the radio only

my harness is gray.. i bought the 70-2103 from ebay which shows its blue, and the bag it came in is marked 70-2103.. did i receive the wrong harness?

but actually what youre saying makes sense.. i wired the blue and white remote wire from the radio to my sub amp, but not the stock amp. which has gotta be the problem.

can i twist my sub remote wire in with the radio/s remote and my stock amp remote?

yes thats what you need to do BUT... before you do that check the configuration of the speaker wires. Gray harness is normally wrong blue is the right one but it might have been repined or something

If the speaker wires are all in a line on the top (or bottom if u flip it around) then its right

If the speaker wires are in a square formation (2 sets on top and 2 sets just underneath them on the bottom) then the harness is wrong and i would pull it out asap

all my speaker wires are lined up on the bottom so im good there, mustve just gotten a repined gray harness as you mentioned.

gonna go recrimp remote wires and see what happens.

any idea whats up with my info pane though? a working thermometer would be a good thing too haha

thats the thing. If If it isnt pinned properly and your giving some sorta weird nonsense to the bcm via the gm lan wire then it will **** your car up and unless you got 1k or so burning a whole in your pocket they aren't gonna fix the bcm under warranty

I would highly recommend unhooking any random wires from the harness other then the constant ground and speaker wires (and the remote if it works)

Just tread softly

so just so im clear, my info pane runs off of my gm lan wire which could be running through my harness?
should the colors going into the metra harness match up with the ones going into the stock harness?

no the colors wont match up.... i put the stock colors in parentisis below

basiclly im just saying hook up as little wires as possible and cap off the others. The only thing running thru the harness should be speaker wires (yellow, brown, blue, dark blue, green, dark green, tan, gray) constant (i think orange) ground (pretty sure its black) and remote (pink)

cap off the acc dimmer illumination ect in the metra harness and make sure they are not uses

can i disconnect whatever wires are in the stock harness that arent connected to anything in the metra harness?

all of my speakers are working now so i feel like all the speaker wires are pinned correctly, and the only things running thru the metra harness are speakers, constant, remote, ground, and acc.. so im not quite sure what you mean i should cap?

ok ur good then

just dont hook up the acc in the metra harness to anything. when i say cap it off i mean tape it up, crimp a butt connect, crimp cap ect to prevent it from touching anything

alright sweet. i wanted to save 10-15 bucks so i wrapped orthodontic bands around part of the connection and it fits snug, sounds fine.

thanks again, youve been a godsend

next onto the trim..

as if you havent helped enough, i do have one more question. my h/u goes to a volume level of 60, but my speakers seem to be awfully loud at around twenty. its not a problem except that my subs are a lot quieter than my speakers and im not sure what to do. my h/u doesnt have a preamp output volume or rca volume or anything of the sort, and my aftermarket amp is already at full sensitivity.

does the amped signal being sent to the stock amp have anything to do with this?

Im gonna raise this one from the dead, i am trying to install my jvc H/U and i can get it to power on, but can't get the sound. I have a '06 ss with the pioneer system of course. Can someone tell me exactly where the speaker wires are located of the gm harness, i've looked up diagrams and repinned my harness and still got nothing. all i need to know is the color of the +'s & -'s and which speaker they correspond to.

system has an amplifier, which requires power on (from the antenna/amp power)
