Little Help.

Hey guys I have a 2006 chevy cobalt ss/sc with the g85 package and it has the "premium" sound package. Aka the pioneer setup with the sub in the trunk.

Anyways I am about 99.99% sure I blew something in my front right speaker, the front passenger speaker. I don't know if these front speakers have tweeters or not, but it sounds like a bad tweeter to me, just a guess though.

Anyways I was wondering if you guys could help me out with picking out a new set of speakers. I would like this next set of speakers to be able to handle FULL volume that the cobalt can produce.

Also, I have a few other questions. I know absolutely nothing about car audio, but I am thinking about replacing the stock amp with something better. I like the stock bass, but I want my music to be able to be louder. I figure if I go with all new speakers, and new cables and a new amp and or possibly a new head unit, I will be able to get that louder sound I want.

Does anyone regret changing out the stock head unit from the cobalt? Any rattles or anything? Let me know whats up boys, thanks.

What is the price range you are looing at for each thing radio, speakers, and amp? I dont know why you would ever regret getting rid of your factory hu. A good aftermartet radio will sound so much better. Some rattles might appear when you bet better speakers and amp but they can be fixed.

if you're planning on replacing everything you should get quite a bit more volume but its not going to be easy, simple, or cheap

i would replace the speakers 1st and go from that! those will make a HUGE difference on the poineer system, and if you have no clue about it. i would take it some where and get it done like that

The factory head unit is only programmed to be so loud so changing speakers isn't going to change how loud it gets. Also, the door actually has 2 speakers in it, it's got the tweeter up by the mirror and the midrange in the lower door panel. Easiest way to check if it's a blown speaker is to take it out and use a volt-meter on it. I don't remember exactly the feedback you should get, but I could find out if you wanted me to. If you were to change the entire speaker set-up in your car, make sure you match speakers all the way around. Don't use like MTX for the front mids, Rockfords for the tweeters and like Kenwood for your 6x9's. Keep with the same manufacturer/series. Otherwise you could end up with a lop-sided sounding system. As for the sub, you could replace it with an aftermarket 10 or 12 with a equally rated amp. I don't know if you can really push the factory sub any harder than it's already being pushed. I had it apart once and it's not exactly the best put together sub I've ever seen, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's maxed already

the stock ones are components. if something is blown he needs to replace it all... otherwise a coax would work too

pioneer speakers are 2 ohm so more like 1.7-2.3

But the OEM front speaker i thought was EXACTLY the same that they put into the other cobalt models? thus sayin that all Speakers are 4 ohms...Correct me if i am wrong?

Cause when i took mine out and replaced mine...They looke exactly like my buddys that came out of his 2.2?

nope but one easy way for them to tell is the pioneer is an acutal 6.5 speaker with an adpater to make it fit the cobalt. but the stock speaker is a single piece

Different speaker but the same size.
The base cobalts have no amplifier to run them, its internal in the HU.
I take it you have the Pioneer system, this has an amp to run the speakers/sub and the Pioneer speakers run at 2 ohms
The base cobalts have lower quality speakers (AC Delco I think) that run at either 4 or 6 ohms
The amplifier puts out around 40-45 watts to the speakers with the pioneer system, but the base balts have (this is a guess) about 15 watts and I think the base speakers are only able to handle abot 20 watts, or maybe less

wow thanks for all of the replies, i didn't think i would get this many replies so quickly, my bad on not responding.

So basically the tweeter i believe, the top right speaker by the mirror on the passenger side I am pretty sure is blown. Either way, I would like to replace the head unit, looking to spend around 200 ish on that - if that seems reasonable, and then grabbing some new speakers. I don't really care about the cost, but I don't want to spend a ton of money.

I am probably going to have someone at bestbuy do the install and i will probably grab the stuff there too.

If you guys could, give me a link from bestbuy of some good speakers to buy and a good head unit, thanks boys!

If your going to change your HU then go with a double din unit. Even if you don't want to spend the bucks on a LCD screen you can get DD units that are just CD/MP3 players. The plastic trim piece that you need to put in with the single din units is ugly.
These are cheaper than LCD's, don't forget that price is in Canadian dollars

thats a nice double din

either way thou 200 isn't much to work with for the HU. getting the cheapest one they have +install at best buy might barely make it at that price.

Thats what I was thinking

With all the mods listed in the OP's sig then maybe he can afford to up his price range a little bit.

But in all honesty putting a $200 deck in would almost be a down grade from the stock one, if your not going to put a decent HU in then better off just keeping the one you got IMO

If your not gonna amp the speakers the first set will sound good. Amping them will make them sound better.

The second set will have to be amped ive hurd them without amps and they dont sound great at all.
