A little help for a newbie

Hey guys,

Just bought a silver 2006 LS Coupe. Absolutely love the car. I'm not too much into performance enhancing (yet) or visual enhancements, but just sound for now.

My question for you guys is this:

I want to add a sub in the trunk. I'm thinking a single 10 will do the job, but thats just me and I dont know too much. I just want to add a little kick and increase the quality and volume of the bass. I'm not worried too much about having people hearing me coming a mile away lol.

But anyway, I'm also considering replacing the stock speakers (if you guys think it would be worth it)

I'm trying not to spend much money here. I'm talking average stuff. Not top of the line, but not Walmart, ya know?

While still keeping the stock radio, what would I need to give myself some kick and some enhanced sound quality from my stereo.

Thanks a ton in advance for your replies. I appreciate it.

Its great to see a community like this for owners

Thanks for the reply and the welcome.

I've been reading more about my question.

Some say replacing the rear 6x9s with better speakers (some say Kickers but i dont know what that means) is a great start without the hassle of an amp and sub.

Would getting a pair of pretty good rear speakers do make a huge difference?

Basically, whats the best way to noticeably increase bass and quality without spending hundreds of dollars. Thank you again

A good set of tweaters in the front, 6X9's in the back and a sub enclosed box with a Kenwood 12' sub would be a decent start. I am not big in audio so... I think the stock system is fine.

hmmm if ur gonna spend money on sub id say go aftermarket, rather than buying a factory one. unless you want something small to save space.... i find the factory sub doesnt have enough pounding power (im not saying it has to set off the parked car alarms) maybe its the factory amp or maybe its the sub....i dont know which one is the problem

as for the stock speakers....id say go listen to the aftermarket ones and see if its worth the upgrade

first thing your going to want to do it upgrade to an aftermarket headunit...your sound, power and ajaustability will make even your factory stuff sound better..plus it has proper hookups for an amp/sub combo

for you application you wouldnt need a super high end unit,
im not an alpine guy but its hard to beat for the price the CDC-9846. or the jcv KD AR360 or 560

yes i would start at the deck..but at times u can get new speakers and a 4 channel amp if u like that stock look. i would get some alpine type s speakers..some not to expensive and sound great. do them all around...sub wise...do u want it to ratlle your ****...go with a rockford p2 DVC sub. i would say go with a type r..but it gets expensive..and just get a decent amp to power it.

Im not looking for rattle and turning heads, just looking for a little extra kick and quality. I do like the stock radio. Any input on either speakers or amp/sub combos is appreciated. Ideally I'd like an inexpensive amp to power like a single 10 inch sub. Is that possible to do inexpensively? And would i notice a result? Thanks alot guys!

Unless you plan to put in a new head unit changinf the speakers would be a waste of money.

ok thats fine if you want to keep the factory raido, you will need a "line output convertor"
basically it uses the speaker wires form your back speakers as an rca cable that you would run off an aftermarket deck,i was thinking you might be able to splice into your rear speaker wire and be able to keep the speaker work, but i couldnt confirm that. you will alos have to run some kind of switched remote wire

u really need to repace the headunit if you are doing anything audio. Kicker is a brand. If you want fairly good quaility and low proce, Wal-Mart(around here anyway) has 4-way 5 1/4" Pioneer speakers(front door) for $45 a pair and 4-way 6x9"(rear deck) for $55 a pair. JC-Whitney also sells these. As for sub, it depends on preference, but Sony X-Plod is okay(i personally dont like them but w/e) and dont waste money on a bigger amp than the sup(i.e. dont get a 400W sub and a 1200W amp, unless you are installing 3 subs) btw, the pioneer speakers i mentiond work very well in my elantra

someone had mentioned that replacing the speakers without a new HU is a waste. So i'm thinking of going with an amp and sub. What is a good, inexpensive combo?

If you just want to add a little more bass to the system a sub and amp combo will do exactly that. The line out converter is the best way to go if you want to keep your head unit or save money.

After checking out ikesound.com, I see that a brand called Lanzar makes cheap equipment. Yes, I know you get what you pay for. What I'm wondering is if an amp/sub combo made by them would work for me and how it would sound. I dont know much about them, but some of their subs come with paper cones, and i'm pretty sure thats bad, right? (What is that poly stuff and is it good?)

If I found an amp and sub combo from them (sub made of whatever you guys tell me is good) what do you think? Thanks alot guys.

(check out ikesound.com or any other place and help me put together a cheap set that will sound ok)

Im NOT trying to shake my neighborhood, just have a nice thump in the car and maybe hear it outside a little. Thanks fellas
