n00b audio questions

i have a few n00bish questions...

k so i want an ipod compatible head unit in my balt. but i dont want an amp or new sub or anything like that.

i like the stock 7 speaker pioneer setup i have going on. but its rated at like 220 watts i think right?

so say i got a head unit thats like 4x20 watts..whats that mean exactly?

would it not be as loud as stock?

the stock pioneer system has a factory amp so changing the HU will either make no effect or gain you volume/clarity

Well....there is the add-on unit for our HU's that allows you to plug the data side of your IPod into your HU and control and listen to your Ipod through the head unit.

I saw it on Ebay.

If you have the 7-speaker pioneer system, don't the 06 head units have the AUX input?? If so you can go buy an aux cable, hook one head to your iPod headphone jack and the other to the Balt aux input

ok i kept my pioneer speakers and put in a touch screen deck. you can keep the speakers if you like, but you have to bypass the amp. if you don't know alot about car audio it can be pretty difficult. if you buy your deck through crutchfield.com they will send you wiring diagrams for the balt. this makes it alot easier, plus they can help you over the phone. when i wired my new deck i lost my pioneer sub, but that didnt matter because i have two 12". the other speakers will still work, when i put my new deck in my speakers got louder, and have better sound quality. but if you are a noob i would highly reccomend you order through crutchfield. even though its a tad more expensive it will make the install alot easier with their customer support.

when i added my new deck you have to get a new wiring harness. if you don't bypass the amp you cant get sound out of the speakers. so you just pull the harness out of the amp and plug the speakers right into the back of the deck. its a bit more complicated, but thats the basic idea...

as long as you hook up the new deck correctly you shouldnt have to bypass the amp... i belive you just need to add/change the remote wire along with a power wire for the deck

when you take out the stock deck you have to switch wiring harnesses. without the stock wiring harness, the amp wont work. thats the way i did it and the speakers wouldt work if you didnt do that. there might be other ways to do it i guess.

actually you just have to hook up the amp turn on wire thats in the harness you bought to the power antenna or amp turn on wire of the head unit and they will still work. I confirmed this with metra yesterday
