First of all, what kind of tools do you have laying around? All you really need for installing a stereo would be a basic ratchet set, some screw drivers and a wire stripper/crimper. You'll also need a bunch of butt connectors.

My dad says he has a wire crimper so I'll try to look up how to use that. I can get $20 from my boyfriend for small stuff. I just don't like taking a lot from him unless he gifts it to me...

Luckily we have like every tool known to man lol. I have my own ratchet set, and dad and brother have everything else. I know he has some type of wire tool with a ton of settings on it, he just got done fixing a fuse I pulled out

Ya, definitely forgot about the fuse part... if you opted for a better harness you wouldn't have to run a wire all the way to the fuse box. Anyways, that's just one extra step, you'll need something called a fuse tap now.

$100 harness VS. $9.00 harness... Lol it will be ok for a friend to help guide me and do the extra step himself.
Um I did not get an antenna adapter though cause I have one in there already. I used to have an ipod integration kit and they put one in then. Will it still work or do I need to go grab another adapter real quick?

Pac-Audio.com Product Details | iPod Integration for your car and More by Pac-Audio - Connecting you to the future
It's this PAC harness so that you can keep your steering wheel controls and 07+ models can retain chimes. 05/06 stereos don't have the chimes integrated so that's why we don;t need it, we can get a $40 PAC SWIX steering wheel control harness and the cheap ten dollar basic harness.
I decided to go with just the basic harness since I don't use my steering wheel controls.

Its so hard to sort through all the threads to find the exact info you need for your installation. If I wanted to install a Pioneer AppRadio 3 in my 2006 SS/SC with the Pioneer system without OnStar and retain my steering wheel controls what harness(es) would I need?

I have an 06 and I bought it anyways. Because right now the way our cars are, we can turn our car off and the radio will still work until we open our door. If you don't buy that then your radio is going to turn off when you turn your car off.

I totally agree that it is the better harness and sounds easier lol.
Since I'm just not too picky, the little things I'm going without don't bother me. There's always a chance to get the PAC anyway if I change my mind in the future, which is good : D

Go turn your car on with your doors closed. Then turn your key off. Your radio is still going to be on. You can even take the key out and your radio will still work. Then open your door. Your radio is going to turn off. Without the harness the key to your car is going to be in control of your radio. So without the harness your radio is going to shut off when you turn your car off.
Not all cars came with onstar
