Need help installing an after market amp
Well I just got a Kenwood KAC-6402 for Christmas and I am going to install it this weekend. I just wanted to know if anyone has done this. I am going to keep the factory h/u but I am not sure on how to bypass the factory amp. I will eventually change the h/u but for now I am going to stick with the factory one.

well you need some kind of rca cables to go out to your amp from your headunit, to give it input for sound. There are bypasses you can buy, where you do this from your rear speakers. But i know the stock headunit does not have rca cable output, so youll have to do it from splicing the rear speakers. Or just get a headunit.

how will I get from the sound from the Kenwood back to the speakers? I will no longer need my factory amp which is why I wanted to know if I wire the speakers from the factory amp or the back of the h/u.

Well see what I was going to do was tap into the rear lines and convert them into rca out puts but my I am not sure if the factory amp will interfer with the new amp. I tried doing this in my dads Expedition but when ever you would put the volume up it sound destorted. So do I tap in to the speaker behind the h/u or from the factory amp?

here's what i would do....
FIRST AND FOREMOST DO NOT CUT THE FACTORY HARNESS!
1. get the wiring harness to hook up the after market head unit to the factory harness like this one...
2.hook up the power, ground, and ignition on wire to the new harness (do not hook up the wires on the after market head unit going to the speakers just wire tie them together and tuck them away somewhere we aren't going to use them)
3.run the wires from the amp in the back up behind the radio.
4. connect the speaker wires accordingly (if the + and - say RR look for the wires on the new harness that say RR - and RR + and so on)to the amp and the new harness. make sure you match the channel to the speaker or it will sound all out of whack
5. run the rca's from the back of the radio to the amp and hook up the power and to the amps.
6. hook up the remote wire to the remote wire on the back of the radio by tapping into the sunroof fuse in your fuse panel using one of these

7. plug the new wiring harness into the factory harness and you're done.
this is for wiring an after market head unit and amp. personally i wouldn't replace the factory amp there's really no need to if you aren't running an after market head unit.

What happens is the amp's turn on mute circuit has already done its thing by the time the head unit boots up, and you get a turn on thump. Gotta run amp off the remote wire on the radio. I'm speaking from experience here, I did it that way first,
peace
