total audio noob here, im looking to spend $300-$400 on 2 12's with an amp, if its a little more for the amp no biggie.
Ive been waiting for a craigslist deal and i know i can get something good for this kind of money. my question is, i had preivously 2 12" kenwoods with a 1000w amp. Im looking for more bass than that offered so if i run a 1500w amp, what do i need to look for to make sure the subs can handle that if i buy them seperate?

Alright so I was looking at P2's and they're definitely in my price range...but I saw some Clarions on sale at bestbuy.com that SEEM to have better specifications. I suppose it doesn't matter though since RF is simply better than Clarion?
400rms/800peak for the RF P2
500rms/1500peak for the Clarion WQ
400rms/800peak for the RF P2
500rms/1500peak for the Clarion WQ

BUT, you'll need WAY more power than the amp you're running now!
The absolute best setup you could power them with would be two JL Audio 1000/1's (can get for around $300 each used here). If you didn't want to spend that much than get a F5000D amp for $140 SoundStorm F5000D 1-Channel 5000 Watt Mono Block Car Subwoofer Amplifier - Puts out a tested and verified 1700watts RMS @ 1 ohm (so get two of the 12" RE Audio SEX 12D4 subs to equal out to 1 ohm all in parallel).
That system my friend, would absolutely blow your mind
My RE audio sex 10D4 on a JL 1000/1, when it punches it takes the air out of your lungs and chatters your teeth, on the low notes it shakes your head so hard it blurs your vision! You've never heard lows like this from a single 10" before (even 10w7!)
LICK FOR SOME HIGH RES!

lol. There's just so much more power out there available now Long excursion subs have stiff spiders/suspension, so you need lots of power to push them far and accurately
If you were running a single sub on your amp, it'd probably be just "ok" pushing a RE Audio SEX 12D4 (in parallel at 2 ohms).
But for pushing two 12" speakers?? It really isn't enough power
If you under drive your speakers and have the gain set way up on your amp, it's just going to clip and damage the speakers and overheat the amp constantly.
More power is your friend
That amp I linked for $140 is really hard to beat for price per "real" watt!
I updated the link to the speakers, found a guy on ebay selling them as a pair for $299 shipped! Just gotta ask him if he can do the D4's for the same deal, if you're going with the F5000D amp (or if you're going with a single or dual JL 1000/1's then no need to worry, the D2's will work fine!)

LOL nice. You want to see your subs MOVE?! I just uploaded a 720p version of Waka Flocka Flame ft. Wale & Roscoe Dash - No Hands with 320kbps audio (converted from lossless AAC). The version of the "official" video on youtube has such crappy audio, doesn't do the song justice!!
Don't forget to click her into 720p:

Alright sooo don't make fun of me but I picked up a pair of kicker cvr12's at best buy today. On top of that I got a donor amp from my friend. It's a RF 800a2 and I'm trying to figure out how to wire these guys up...
I THINK I should wire the voice could in parallel to cut the load down to 1ohm then bridge it at the amp?
~_~
They're 400rms speakers and the amp runs at 400rms x 2 at 2 ohms.

right at 4 ohms... trust me dude my first real setup (reason i say real is because i technically had one b4 it but not really) was the 2003 verson of that amp, 801s and a pair of D4 He2s (400w rms) and lets just say while i had no idea **** about audio my lil best buy system turned some heads and even got me second place in a competition (which was utter fail on my part)

Bridged, only compatible at 4 ohms
Also take the "960 watt" rating with a grain of salt. The fuse rating is only 60 amps, at a perfect 14.4 volts that's only around 750rms if it actually pulls close to 60 amps
