need opinions
after a month of selling my 2 l7's i miss my subs so bad its not even funny, i still have my batteries and all my wires set up for a amp...so what i want to do is build as big as a system as i can on the stock alt...
im guessing with 2 yellow tops and stock alt I could probabaly do around 2500-3000wt? (with big 3 installed)
I would rather go with 1 crazy ass sub then have 2 lower power ones. I was looking at fi btls and heard good things about them...but i want opinions on what you guys think the best SPL subs are.
solo x?
XXX?
BTL?
any help appericated
thanks

a single 12 would work pretty well. solo x, btl, re mt, dd 9500 ect they should all work pretty well
i wouldnt do the xxx if your looking for spl. its an sq sub that takes some serious work to get loud

i was acctually thinking of doing 1 15" in a custom box, a 18 would be sick but i dont think i could get one in there even with a custom box
and i posted in your fs thread, i might pick up a t2k
edit: and i thought the XXXs were loud as **** at really low notes

ya they do play super low but higher freqs are technically louder persay.... something like 45hz is the sweet spot. yet my subs are at max volume at 35hz. my loudest song "the dream i love your girl" doesn't even play on most the subs we have at the shop
if you can get a really really good custom box it might be worth it to pull out a single 15 ported
a single 18 would never fit properly. they need like 8 cu to make it work and we don't even have 18in of trunk height

a 15 box could fit but the box coudlnt be any taller than like 15.5-16 inches

i did take offense to that... lol jk
you are correct in retrospect my box really isn't that special. it wasn't designed, tuned nothing just measured and wala. but my box is sealed. and most importantly solid. Its double faced and the divider for the 2 chambers acts like a very good brace. Its built with both liquid nails and staples like most normal boxes but also has several predrilled screws (predrilled so the mdf doesn't split) holding it together. Its not really crazy in the fact that not everyone can build something like it (although the angled sides are a bit complicated) but its a really good box because its not breaking under extreme pressure from the subs.
the box for the 15 can physically fit.... remember before i ever had the 2 15" XXX's (this might have been before your time thou) i had a single 15" MT in a giant competition box.... pretty much the same size as i have now except square so a bit smaller but it only really worked firing forward. and that's something your not going to want to do.
So if you can get a 15 box that's really built properly and overbuilt like mine and can utilize the space in the trunk in such a way it can face backwards and still have flow into the trunk then it will be a winner. If you cant get that air flow and everything to work out a single 12 in the same overbuilt box is gonna be louder. Your also going to want to make sure its tuned and the port is built properly... those subs move alot of air and need a big ass port. to give you an example we do pretty big ports on out custom boxes and we tried a 9512 in one of the DD boxes we had on the show room (we would never sell it like such because the sub would break the box but its all in good fun to try stuff out right?) and it was too much for the port. i mean ya it worked but an 1.5" bigger port would have made that sub stand out like its made to... in spl its all these little things that make it work. anyone can go buy a big sub and big amp but it takes some skill to really optimize the situation to get the most out of your equipment
