new Radio update (56k beware)
Hey guys, You've seen some of the install, I'm working on getting it all finished...here's where I'm at. I got the Steering wheel interface connected, got the dash kit painted, and got the Lights set up for the pocket (need to do some more work though, there not very bright.) So some pictures, although I don't have it all in yet.
I had to cut out the plastic and work the metal brace around a bit...here's the inside of my dash.
all out
Wire harness and the control wire from the steering wheel controls....I had to run power to the White and black wire.
Here is the IR emitter for the Steering wheel controls.
Here is everything installed, the RALLY part is temporary, I still have to figure out how best to set that up and get a Stencil made.
If you look close here at the bottom, there is a switch with a light on it, its to light the back of the RALLY name plate, I'm thinking about setting her sub up on it, so she can turn it on and off, but it's not overpowering at any time so I think I'll just use it for the Lights. (maybe yellow pedals and a underbody kit at some time too)
And here you can see the LED's aren't to bright in this configuration...
last one here is a pic of the Trim plate painted. I'll update tomorrow when I get it all back in again.
and a kitty for good measure

Thatll look good with the trim piece painted. Ive been wanting to do that and just havent gotten around to it. I have the base model which has the darker gray trim. When you got the paint for the trim piece, did you take a silver trim piece in and get it color matched or how did you go about that? That was my only thing on how to get the right paint. It would be nice to spray it but i wasnt sure if they could match it in spray paint or not. Let me know how you went about that so I can get mine painted asap ha. Looks good though man cant wait to see it in the dash!

I went to the auto parts store (like NAPA or parts plus) and had them mix up the color, they had it in there books as a Satin Nickel for GM bumpers and trim. 04+ I think.

it is the universal steering wheel interface, works with any radio with a IR remote, you just have to program it.
Semi Finished Pictures....

Doesn't look to bad, I think the color is off a tiny bit, but it's much more visible in picture form than in sunlight and eye view.

it makes this terrible whineing sound, almost sounds like a ambulance siren (you remember the movie Harry and the Hendersons? When Harry hits his head on the top of the car and makes that loud noise? it sounds like that with the cat in there) The Radio sounds awesome, I can't wait to get some work done in my car now....(I almost miss my Cavalier)
I would suggest using the website for the adapter, it has great directions for your specific car...
that pic might help too, the white wire(with black line) between the blue one I'm pulling and the black wire is the one you need to send power to. (I used a line off the relay I ran to turn on my amps.) The blue wire needs to be connected to the green one on the steering wheel interface, thats the wire that sends the signals from the steering wheel controls.

she doesn't have a SS, she has a Rally Yellow 05 LS, and she named the car Rally for some strange reason too :-) I wouldn't mind cobalt, but she wanted rally, and what the g/f wants she gets...(I wish it worked that way for me...lol)

the blue wire was from the radio harness (factory side) I believe I used the A9 and A10 pins.
I got my parts from Crutchfield, except the steering wheel control interface I picked up at a local shop. the paint I got at a local auto shop also. (parts plus)

what did you connect to the two wires and did you give the Interface it's own power and ground? I had to run a power wire to the interface and to the white/black wire on the harness, then had to ground the interface and connect the output of the harness (blue wire) to the green wire on the interfce, that was it.
