OEM bluetooth intergration/aftermarket hu
So I have done a lot of research. My buddy has an 08 ss/tc. Ive seen reports that you can swap the stock hu and vcim OnStar module from an 09 to the 08 and have OEM Bluetooth. Is this accurate?
Also he may be thinking of doing a aftermarket hu. If so what's the process for putting new rock fords in the front and rear and retaining the stock amp and sub? Is there any aftermarket hu that can utilize the OnStar mic for Bluetooth?

I've got an 08 that has been upgraded for factory 09 bluetooth. You don't need to change the head unit. I didn't. You do need to change to the newer onstar unit that's in the back speaker deck, and of course, add a bluetooth antenna. It needs to be programmed for your VIN by the dealer. Of course you won't have the right buttons on the steering wheel but you can get them and replace your old ones.

Yes, that's the guy. You can see that I posted in that thread. The buttons are the same, just different labels. I never even bothered to change mine as they work just fine. When he shipped it to me it was all set to go. If I remember right it put my stereo into security lock and the dealer just unlocked it. Didn't charge me anything for it.
I don't know what the part number is, and the soonest I could even think of taking the back of my car apart to get it would be next weekend.

If you look at the link you first posted you'll see the bluetooth antenna is in a plastic bag sitting on top of the onstar unit. It's real small and attaches on to the unit.
Yes your dealer will have to program it for your vin. Mine didn't charge me, but most do.

No, the stock 08 head unit is what I have. Never touched it, still original.

Got the part today and helped with the install. Noticed the 08 module is considerably bigger than the 09. Plugged it in started working right off the bat. On the phone with onstar now trying to get the vin switched
