ohms are confusing

hi, i just blew my amp for my subs but want to upgrade anyways, i will post up links of the sub i want but am wondering if i can get 2ohm or 1 ohm out of 1 sub or do i need another sub, thx for your help,

http://cgi.ebay.com/MB-Quart-RWE-352...QQcmdZViewItem

heres the amp im looking at
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MEWA:IT&ih=018

will this stuff all work together, im guessing i blew my amp yesterday because i hooked up 2 more subs to it but before that it always worked fine, i just want to make sure i dont fry anything again

if you wire that sub in parallel (since its dual 2 ohm), you can get it to a 1 ohm load. that amp is 1 ohm stable, so it would work, but be cautious about power acoustic stuff, the price looks good, but the amps run really hot

thx, i have 2 power acoustic 10" fubars and love them but i want more hit so im getting 1 15", i figured the quality of their subs were good so the amp should be as well

will i have to worry about the amp being to powerfull for the one 1400 watt peak sub?

Need to look at RMS not peak power look at your RMS wattage on your amp and subs

no, i know that but the rms on the amp is 1700 at 1 ohm, and the subs rms is 600, thats y im wondering about running highr impedance

well, what about my 2 10" power acoustics and the 15" what would my ohms be then, i have my 2 pwr acstc @ 2 ohms but i can wire them to 4 ohms

with that sub, you can only get a 1 ohm load (parallel) or a 4 ohm load (series). you can't just hook up one voice coil, the sub won't work. match your rms wattage from whichever resistance you chose to the rms wattage of the amp. you can over power the sub to some degree (usually depending on the quality of the sub), but dont under power it. where are you putting this sub too? cause unless you get a custom enclosure, a 15'' wont fit in the back of your trunk (against the back seats)

the rms on the sub is 600W at dual 2 ohms, meaning when you wire the voice coils in parallel, you will be running 1200W at 1 ohm, so you would be over powering the sub by about 500W

the amp you have in the link is a mono amp, meaning it will only power one sub. DO NOT attempt to splice more than one sub to the amp. if you want to run all three subs, buy a mono for the 15'', and a two channel for the 10s

ok, i would measure it up before buying it to see how it will sit in the trunk.

i suppose that would work, but why would you buy an amp rated for that power that your never gonna use?

im running 2 alpine 12'' type R's in a sealed enclosure each powered by their own MRP-M650 amp. when i crank it, it feels like someone is sitting behind me kicking my seat. a 15'' sub is gonna take a lot of power to get it moving, it might be loud, but i've had such a great experience with 12's that i wouldnt but anything else, just my 2cents

cause im impractical!, lol, no i would like to sometime have a really nice system but not in the cobalt but if the price is right i buy in advance and use a little untill i can use its full potential, what do you think would be a good 12" sub that will put out a lot of bass with the right box, my buddy has a jl w1 and amp in a box for $200 but its not enough bass imo. i do really like jl though

if i get just a 12 i would get a smaller amp with like 600rms

unless the sub is less or more than that, i do agree that the amp right now would be complete overkill

yeah JL is a good name along with Alpine, they're basically in the same class. I've only had experience with those two brands so i can speak from experience that they are good. the type of box really depends on your flavor of music, a sealed enclosure will get you really tight bass with a lot of kick. a ported one will give you a ton of bass but not as much punch. i listen to everything (rock, rap, techno, you name it) and i love the sealed box. most people will tell you to go to the store and listen to the systems they have and decide, but its not going to sound anything like it will in your car. "you get what you pay for" applies to all audio. so a decent sub is gonna run you some $$$, but you won't regret it.

if you're just gonna look for one 12'' now, get a decent alpine or JL (im not being bias, these are the two brands i have dealt with, so i know they're good) and hook it up to a quality amp, over power it by 50-100 watts, and i would say get a sealed enclosure, unless you just want a lot of crazy bass, then go with a ported enclosure. hope this helps somewhat

i would recommend getting the dual 4 ohm, so then you can wire it to a 2 ohm load, will give you the most power out of the amp

some good info there. I would also recommend Rockard fosgates P1s or P2s or P3s i have P2s and they hit riduculously hard as long as you have an good amp connected to them and tuned just right they will pound. P3s run 500 watt rms and on ebay i got 2 P2s for 123 bucks then i bought a ported box

yeah that is what my P2s are 4ohm DVC i have them wired to 2ohm and 250 watt rms each

X's and w7's are the elite of both brands, but be sure to get an amp just as good to power it

honestly, i wouldn't go that top shelf right now if you're starting with a sub. upgrade your factory speakers, if you haven't already (buy a good set of components for the front, and some good 6x9's for the back) and power them accordingly with an amp. get a decent head unit for some sound quality, then worry about adding bass. if you're just gonna get a sub, look at a type r or w6 or something in that range for other brands and buy an amp to power it accordingly.
