see how it says CHECK SPEED PULSE. its because they didnt hook up a speed sensor wire... so you're going to get that annoying msg all the time when using nav.... i would take it back to the shop and tell them to find the wire, or call eclipse tech with some help on it...

Whats does the speed sensor actually do. I had them set the system set up so that the DVD olyer plays while the car is moving, Do u think if the speed sensor wire was put in then i would be able 2 drive the car and have the DVD player on at the same time. if thats notthe case then whats does the Speed Sendsor actually do?

I believe there is an adaptor that you can get so your steering wheel controls will work.

I have that exact same unit in a different car. The installer connected the speed sensor wire but did not ground the parking brake wire. As long as they don't install the parking brake wire, the unit believes the parking brake is on and you can input destinations and use the DVD while the vehicle is in motion. The 5500 does not have two DVD drives though, so if you want to watch a movie you have to remove the DVD disc and then insert the movie. While watching the movie you won't be able to navigate until you remove the movie and re-insert the navigation disc. The unit will remember our destination and re-calculate your route from your new location.
You want the speed pulse wire connected. If there is spotty satellite reception (in a tunnel, for example) for the unit to take a good guess on where you are, it needs to know how fast you are going. Also, I've heard of some units have "choppy" navigation because it's not getting the input from the speed sensor.
Some units I believe now use the GPS to see if you're moving and disable DVD playback. You shouldn't be watching a DVD while driving, but I could see why you would want to if there are passengers in the car.

great minds think alike!! i also have an eclipse headunit-CD5425,not one like yours, but i still love it. and i also have 2 sets of memphis speakers, and i LOVE them- m class. im saving up at the moment for my subs and amps.. but i was actually thinkin bout kickers or memphis..thats what my dealer recommended. and im wanting the memphis amp. as for the adaptor, yes there is one that is for eclipse..my car audio dealer got it for me for $40. as for the onstar.. mine dont work, and my dealer cant figure out why it wont or how to make it work.
nice set up!
