Pioneer + Aftermarket Setup
Is it possible to wire an aftermarket sub/amp with the pioneer system still running all on stock HU? basically adding a sub/amp to my pioneer system.. is it possible? if so how? i can find a deal on a setup locally and would rather keep the stock pioneer sub functional if possible

i know it will get overpowered and you wont hear it, but one day ill be selling the balt and id rather be able to just remove aftermarket stuff then have to remove aftermarket and install stock back in its place.. u know what Im kinda getting at?

It can be done. I now there's something you have to buy to do it. I had a shop do mine a few years ago.
I left the stock sub in and had no problems.
If you don't find anyone on here that knows for sure what you need, you should just call up an audio shop and ask them.

^^^ correct. The most non invasive way to do what you want would be wire the LOC with T taps at back at the sub box and disconnect the stock sub back there. then when u yank everything all u have to do is disconnect the male part of the t taps (leave the female connection) and re plug in the stock sub. This ensures you dont blow the stock sub for one and for 2 makes it sound better

okay never used a LOC before. I am quite a noob when it comes to systems but i learn quick and if I got decent instructions im not afaid to do this.. so heres what i think i gotta do, correct me if im wrong..
t-tap the two wires going to the stock sub (disconnect the sub)
run the two wires from the t-taps that i connected to the LOC (does anyone got links for some of this stuff)
the LOC gets connected to the amp.
then the rest of the system is a basic install with sub wiring and power wiring to battery, etc
Am i getting this right or am i off the wall? this is my understanding after skimmin through the how to install a system on stock HU thread lol

yes thats right. most loc's have like 2" of wire coming off (right and left and every once in a while a ground) you just connect the 4 wires on the loc to the male t tap connectors and on the other side of the LOC is your rca connections. a 6' rca is normally barely enough to run to the amp if you put it on the drivers side seat and 9' is safer if you put it on the passenger side (assuming your hiding the wires behind the carpet)

with that understood everything else is a basic install correct.
ill need an amp, with ground, connection to battery, and 2 wires going to sub right? (im writing this with only the knowledge of "helping" a friend install one system so id rather ask these dumb questions now)

well you have to put the LOC somewhere. The LOC has female rcas on it so its not a direct connection to the amp... you can connect it right to the amp with barrel connects in some cases but thats never a good idea. so in general the smallest rca you can get is 3 feet. which would work if you extended the speaker wires and hid it half way down the carpet. that would be a bitch to hook it up thou

now im just looking for a decent setup because i can get a 10" box dirt cheap from a buddy but its a big box so its hard matching up its size to a sub and amp combo.. i gotta get exact specs from him soon.. im thinking about putting an alpine type r in there with an amp i have yet to find

bump from the dead i know but im just posting here instead of making a new thread...
im going to be picking this system up by the end of this week 2 10" Alpine Type R's w/ Amp and i just wanna know what i will all need other than what im getting (amp, HU, subs, box, & wiring)
which harness do i need to pick up to be able to run my pioneer speakers (i am disconnecting the stock sub)
also, which double din adapter will i need? cuz i kinda doubt this one that is included will be correct (maybe it will)
finally, how hard is it to install a HU? i never have, but are all the wires color coordinated or whats the scoop??

And the wires are more or less color coordinated. But i have mine ran weird i woun't bother you with that one lol. And Alpine type R's are bad ass. I have a 12". And that mounting bracket woun't work on cobalts i can tell ya that right now. And that amp is pretty small for 2 10"s.
